Quote: mrs cindy russell "They vote Labour because they know that the economic problems in this country is exactly the same as the trouble thoughout the Western grabalots. These stupid people gambled on the stock markets to try and build their own purses....when stocks dropped to bottom did they pay---oh No, they relieded on the government to bail them out. It happened in the USA with EllieMay and followed on with Northern Rock in the UK. It was even worse for the likes of Ireland, Portugal and Greece. I still think that Spain too will pray that the likes of China will help them as the UK has with our banks. By the way, have you checked lately just what sort of bonus these very same gamblers have been awarded this year, all be in in the form of shares, which they will be able to turn into equity in the future. Do so and then try and blame the Labour Gov for the mess this country is in at the moment.

Labour want to get the deficit down by using true economic ways, ie get the defecit down over a slightly longer period by using a building program to get people back to work (earning money again and therefore paying tax into the country instead of taking more and more in benefit) and other such methods.

I'm sorry but speaking as an economist, labour cannot evade blame for the severity of the UK recession, the spent money to win votes while they should have been servicing the deficit , not increasing it. The over inflation of the public sector for vote winning purposes has led to the huge deficit, not to mention browns insistence at not regulating the financial sector

I'll hazard a guess that this is the first time you have lived under a Conservative administration. Give it another year to see what the extent of the public spending cuts are, in terms of loss of earnings and the consequent loss of taxation. This administration has already targeted the most vulnerable and will continue to do so, while their backers reap the benefits of lower taxation and a short-cut to dipping their hands in the public purse.

It's been over 30 years since I lived and voted in local elections in Hull and while I am pleased to see Labour doing well locally, I'll sound just one note of caution. Post WW2, Labour enjoyed virtually total control in Hull, this resulted in some of the most useless, self-promoting, so-called socialists ruling the city. I would hope that the brief period of LibDem control will ensure that the good people of the city never allow any party to achieve a similar situation.

After Thatcher had decimated pubic services, they were in dire need of massive investment, just look at improvements to schools and the NHS. There's a danger that all of that will now be undone in the name of shrinking public services and handing them over to the private sector.

Please don't forget that the Conservatives thought the financial sector was over regulated and Boy George considered the Irish Tiger to be a model that the UK should have followed.

Yes, the schools and NHS improved,

But at what cost? it was unsustainable - almost all of the capital investment made by labour throughout their last term in office was done through the form of PFI - basically getting companies to invest the money now, at a promise of around 30% interest on their investments - purely to keep them off the books.

Labour were reckless in government, and now refuse to accept blame

Cant stand Minns so great to see him become jobless but cant understand the people of Hull (mainly the council workers) rejoicing in the streets because weve now got Labour back who put us in this massive mess to start with with the Lib Dems just trying to sort the whole thing out.

if anything the cuts will be worse, the Labour idiots will slash services needlessley to try and reflect badly on the coalition.

this is a case of be careful what you wish for

also, expect the investment in the wind turbines to slowly ebb away now there are anti-business socialists ru(i)n(n)ing the City.

Because every single person in the Labour party is anti business. icon_lol.gif

Maybe investment in wind turbines will ebb away because they're a horribly inefficient source of energy.

Good job it didn't then. Another revisionist who wants to ignore the role of the banks.

BTW - education [iis[/i the future of our country, and the coalition is ruining it right now. It won't even save them any money.

Neither is the solution to price all but the rich out of it, or condemn pupils and teachers to decrepit facilities. No Government in the past two decades has got it right but this bunch of chancers are in the process of doing massive damage to our long-term future through dogmatic short-sightedness.

The majority of students will pay less under the new system - it was just shockingly communicated to people
