Its just that you read so much into how enthusiastic Calderwood is, yet according to the stats he hardly takes a ball in. Is it just that he threatens to look enthusiastic?

No, they don't. So it's a little ridiculous to try to use them to prove one player is better than another. Calderwood is slightly built, hence he makes fewer metres. So, if you have a winger who you know isn't designed for getting good metres from a hit up, it would be a little bit silly to expect that winger to take a load of hit ups, wouldn't it?

As Brian Mcdermott said on Boots n All last season.. "Stats are for geeks who dont play rugby, getting dirty and working hard for your team wether you miss a tackle or not is what a team needs, everyone makes mistakes and thats when your team ethic jumps in to have the will to cover that yardage to cover that mistake"

So apart from his kick chase game and a bit of pace of which I dont think he is as quick as he once was, what does he add to the team thats worth a new contract?

No I think you are quite correct that he isnt as fast as he once was however he has not lost that much and his kick chase is still exemplary , and as shown in the quins game his will to work hard for the team is undoubtedly in the top three in the team!!
He has a few years left!!

I have read enough on here to suggest that I dont see in him what alot of you guys supposedly do and I thought he was just as bad at Wigan.

We see him play far more than you do.

Maybe so but I see all your games on sky, all the highlights and 2 games a year. Its a fair few and enough to form an opinion.

No-one is claiming that Calderwood is anywhere near his try scoring form of 2005. His move to Wigan was a poor one in retrospect.

He suffered with a lack of service last season but his effort and enthusiasm stood out amongst his team-mates. That is why he is held in high regard by Hull fans. Hopefully Longy when he is back on the pitch can get him amongst the tries.
