| Quote: Staffs FC "We'll agree to differ. I'm not saying for one second by the way that Agar hasn't got a fair bit to answer for. ATEOTD we lack quality at half back which means we are crap at organising any kind of attack and it shows every week when we get 20m from the opposition line. Horne has been very poor this season and Thorman should have been dropped weeks ago - something Agar has definitely got wrong previously. Our pack is OK when it plays to the very best of its ability but when that dips we are struggling even more. With 2 decent halves we would get into the top 6 but we need better players across the park to challenge the top 2.'"
The lack of halfbacks is a problem, but what the halfbacks have had to work with is a huge part of that. No one running angles, no support, no options. You could put Sean Long into that side and he'd still struggle, not because he's not good enough, but because the attacking structure is so poor and because he wouldn't have enough options to cast doubt into the minds of the opposition defence.
With the likes of Berrigan, Horne, Washbrook and Whiting in the squad, we ought to have enough creativity to make a better fist of attacking than we are doing. But we persist in playing Thorman at SH and Radford at LF, then making it even more difficult by giving the ball players we have got zero options.
Of course we need better players, but we also need the ones we have - who will form the core of the side next season - to perform at a level closer to their full potential.

I agree raggy, Motu has been worrying since his return, if he can sort out catching bombs again then I feel he will be fine. Imo that is his only flaw in his game. It really needs to be sorted out, as it's costing us far too many tries!
Happy?

I fully apologize mate, I didn't expect that! I fully agree with you and I'm sorry for the aggressive approach. I have returned from Warrington drunk and angry though!

Chase him down? When was that then? About the time Broughton ran the full width of the pitch from left to right and almost made the tackle? That one?

| Yes that one ,if YOU was there and watched it,Motu ran Mathers down, then he passed it inside to Riley and then Broughton chased him down,REMEMBER.
Must admit,Broughton showed an amazing turn of foot to track Riley down.

| moto has never been the same since his injury maybe the specialist was right when he said he will never be the player that he was.
was there today and as hard as he tried he seamed slow to read the bounce of the ball, had little impact bringing the ball out of his own danger zone and got compleatly flat footed when faced with a one and one tackle.

Great post. Berro, Horne and Lee as pivots - they've been playing together for long enough, but we still look more like we're getting in each other's way with ball in hand. The poor woman next to me today - if she shouted "Runners, where's the runners?" once she must have shouted it 50 times. How can our players be so unaware of what the others are doing when we get the ball? The gutting thing for me is we worked so hard today. The defence, particularly on our goal line was excellent for large parts of the game and our attitude was really good - plenty of bodies in at the tackle, all high fiving Yeamo when he forced the error, some massive hits etc - so it's not like we don't want it, just we don't have a detailed plan to follow that optimises our strengths and targets the opposition's weaknesses.

Excellent post.......so the final common denominator has to be the coach?????

Too many people want to ignore this and believe that the introduction of an ageing half back will suddenly turn us into the harlem globetrotters of the RL world. They are very wrong. tansey and fitzgibbon won't make much difference either

The problem is we have a clueless coach. The quality of SL this season is very poor and with a decent coach we'd comfortably have been top 6, probably top 4. We have lost plenty of games by small margins which would have been wins under a better coach IMO. Good sides are well drilled and it becomes 2nd nature on game day. We look like we don't see each other between games

Isn't that an indication of how bad a decision it was? Let's be right about it, Motu, whilst being a good squad player for the club has never come even close to filling Shaun Briscoe's boots, which is what he was supposed to do.
Blatant bad business by the club is seldom forgotton by the fans. However it came about. It is unfortunate for Motu but if he'd been the 'better' fullback some on here touted him to be this wouldn't be happening would it. He's a victim of circumstance and his own mediocraty. It happens.
