Obst with an improved kicking game would be a first choice SL half IMO but overall we need better. If he goes good luck to him - 100% player not afraid to take the line on.'"
I wouldn't say so. That's still Long, he just didn't play often enough. His game was still that of a 'proper 7' though.
I know you're going to say that he didn't take the line on enough, but I think a lot of that came from rarely ever being truly fully fit whilst here. And if anything Obst had the opposite problem, taking the line on was most of what he had to offer.

| I like Obst, and I shudder to think how bad 2011 would have been if he hadn't become 'unexpectedly available'. The alternatives were not good.
His defence was exposed a few times - he hasn't got the physical presence to compensate for being even slightly out of position. His kicking game is not really good enough, but we should have recruited a half back with a good kicking game years ago.
I'm not sure how much game time he'll get at Hull next year, but I wish him well whether he stays or goes.

| I like Obst and don't see why people would want to get rid of him as he is a fantastic squad player. In the past when our major half back has being out injured we have just fell to pieces and in Obst I certainly feel we have a player who can step in and at least hold the team together. We won't be world class but he'll do a job against the lower teams.
If we were to get rid I would hope it is only to help make way for a major signing, otherwise I'd be happy for him to see his contract out.

Hardly, he played 24 out of 27 league appearances this campaign with 19 on the bounce from the start of the season(including 1 for Wakey) so Sam has been one of the least injured players in the squad. He's also made made 20+ league appearances for 6 out of the last 7 years (only 14 in 2007) so your statement is unfounded really.

I was refering to the amount of times he seemed to be talked about or appearing to be carrying injuries, rather than the games he missed but I take your point probabaly just my perception following his end to the season. I take it back!

I take your point about HB cover, but next season we have Seymour, Horne, Niklas, and Ellis. Both Niklas and Ellis should get game time ahead of Obst IMO so he's looking at being 5th choice HB cover and maybe 3rd choice hooker? Unless he's on a really cheap deal that would be a waste and probably something he wouldn't be happy with either.

Plus as it stands he`s going to be third choice half back/hooker and he`s taking up a quota spot, i`m sure he will be released/paid off to allow us to bring and overseas threequarter.

Good point forgot about Long - for me he did take the line on when he played and we looked a better team for it - I was/am a big fan of his. Long had the kicking game although it was fading in quality during his time with us. Obst doesn't have the talent Long had but plays at the line and better that way than not IMO. Probably best for him if he moves on to ensure first team action at this time in his career although Ellis is an unknown quantity in SL and whilst I'm hoping he rips it up I haven't seen enough from his championship games to think that it is certain he will.

The problem is we have a lot of players who can play 6/7/9 and we need to strengthen other areas so could do with Sam's salary.

Well we both know who I'd have down as a fifth choice.
