| Maybe he can be the assistant coach to a new head coach? As for playing I think his playing days are just about over unfortunately as time has caught up with him now and his body can not take the rigours of SL.
But all good things have to come to an end at some point, just a shame we never saw him enough in the Black & White.

| In answer to the OP: Let's hope so. Mind you this is FC and since we've already re-signed one crocked halfback who ought to have had the decency to retire, we'll probably try and complete the set!
I don't understand why people seem so keen on having Long around as a coach either, just because someone was once a good player has no bearing on how good a coach they would be.

| I think an assitant coaching role at a championship side, especially someone like halifax looking ot make the push to sl at the next reshuffle, would suit longy just fine

You will never know until he is given a chance at a coaching role. Why shouldn't Hull be the ones to give him his big break in the coaching side of the game. Who would you sooner coach the Hull halfbacks. Agar or Long?

indeed
it's time we started being a bit more business like when it comes to the coaching of our club, and under AP I believe we will.

Hull's entire coaching set up is a monument to dishing out 'big breaks' on the 'you will never know unless you try it' basis to Rich Agar, James Webster and Andy Last... How's that worked out?
If Longy wants to become a coach then fingers crossed he does it somewhere else, I'm tired of our club being used as a trial ground for developing failures. Also I would hope to think that under the new chairman we'll be in a position to actually get some people in with such novel things as proven track-records to take care of the coaching.

How would that work with the salary cap though. Would you need to set aside the amount he would earn if he played every game, and if it didn't work out hope you could get someone else in? Sounds risky.

You have got me wrong, maybe its my fault for not making myself more clear. I do not want Long as a head coach at Hull Fc. He needs time to establish himself and take several years learning the ropes. Nor do I want Agar in charge as head coach. I want Wayne Bennett but thats not gonna happen is it now. I want a world class coach at Hull who will bring in his own team. I would not object if the Hull BOD gave Longy a break in coaching and left him to mentor the attack whist the head coach spent time with other matters. Longy has lots of experience and if the price is right it won't do any harm to have him start a coaching career at Hull in a VERY minor capacity. He will have to start somewhere is what I am saying. Why not Hull?

I know you didn't mean for him to be head coach mate but my argument still stands, there's absolutely no evidence that Longy would make a good coach (even just working with the halves) so why risk it? We've done enough of that sort of thing with the current coaching set up IMO. Besides if we're getting the clean sweep of the coaching staff that we all crave and allowing the new man the chance to put his own team together, why then force Long on him? If our new coach comes in and wants to keep Longy on the coaching staff then that's a different matter.

If he wanted to play for FC he should have moved here, permanently, but he didn't, and we just let him do as he pleased, I honestly believe we even signed Gleeson at Long's request.
The chapter of Hull FC and Long has been a troubled tome, and it is best closed, sealed with wax and left on the shelf as a lesson learnt, we can but hope that it is!
