The arguement is still same with 2 refs. As it is now, players know if they lay on too long they will get penalized, yet they still do. So another ref telling them to get off to speed the play the ball up will only work if the players listern.
Its like players permenantly offside the ref cant controll them as it is so im not sure how 2 will help. Also coaches say refs spoiled the game with too many penalties yet its their own players that constantly give these away.
Id try it, if we can get enough good refs. But as people have said before the bunch we have now are useless so another one on the pitch may not help either.
who know?

| No reason to do away with the video ref, as they haven't in AUS. Two refs is good because it means one can concentrate on the defensive side and other on the attacking side and should bring the number of mistakes down.

| The hardest job in RL is the match officials Job, the more help they can get the better , more eyes mean less mistakes in my opinion and so i am for it completely, also the RL are going to pilot a new piece of software that can map out forward passes clearly for the VT ref next season to see how it goes which will be a major boost to mistake handling and management

What would be the point in that technology? The VT ref is not allowed to call a forward pass.

as for the touchies, you can forget about them improving anytime soon. as there all about 40+...cant keep up with play, have no say in any major descion thus letting teams get away with "line balls" at every ruck.......
senior and hall have an art at throwing momentum balls....what a load of e our touchies are

HELLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOO
Don't you not think that if they can get the technology right, the VR might just be able to adjudicate on forward passes?
Personally I have yet to see any benefit from having two refs on the field but what I would like to see is a greater level of communication between the ref & TJs.
Many problems are caused by the referee's ego. I've had experience of a referee telling me "anything you see come on and I'll back you up" - that is always dangerous. I've also had one Grade 1 telling me that as the match was televised, all he wanted me to do was mark touch. When one player nearly had his head taken off, the ref came over and asked what I saw, I told him I'd not seen anything because I was too busy marking touch, as per his command. I subsequently wrote a letter to Fred Lindop, letting him know exactly what went on. The ref in question never got another top game that season and retired early at the end of it.

No unfair advantage with video ref, it doesn't seem to be doing much for the Catalans does it and they have it for every home game.
Touch judges regardles of it being a tv match or not are very reluctant to become involved.... however due to the modernisation of the game and refs and touch judges being linked through mics/earpieces it is sometimes hard to know if they are interacting or not. I did enjoy the sets they sold at Murrayfield which allowed you to listen to the ref etc not sure if they will work at normal SL games though.

| I'd like to see the touch judges more involved but i think eventually , we will see a two ref system which has worked fairly well in the NRL.

| 2 refs is much better. The biggest enemies of open play are the wrestle at the PTB and offside. To expect one man to monitor both is asking too much of the greatest ref in the world, let alone some we have. If we are stuck for a choice then 2 refs are much more preferable. Of course there will still be mistakes but we should get better consistency in how the game is played, the ref won't be drawn into concentrating on the PTB at the expense of offside or vice versa. If 2 refs means no video replay then so be it. The extra help from the replay is a nice luxury but it slows everything down and is hardly infallible or conclusive - I could live without it.

| after watching a few nrl games this yr it seems to have speeded up the play, fewer penalties, less time wasting pointless scrums and a better ptb and offside decisions...compared to superleague that is.as for the video ref at sky games only(excluding catalans)it should be all or none IMO.
