| This has been mentioned lately but surely after yesterday the Rugby League have to act with a rigorous radical approach to drinking alcohol in the grounds.
Irrespective of what goes on with players and the referee on the pitch alcohol is the problem and should be banned.
It seems to me that drinking alcohol seems to be the first priority for some fans and the game is secondary.
We need change, and now is the time to make it,not next year or the year after.
Banning smoking in public had people up in arms, but you get used to it.
Lets get fans to games who want to watch a Rugby League match rather than the British disease beer drinking contest

| Something needs to be done before a player has his head cut open or loses an eye from a missiles thrown from a supporter.
Do we totally ban the sale of alcohol in sports grounds or just ban consumption of alcohol in view of the pitch? It's a complicated subject though - what stops people filling soft drinks bottles with alcohol?
We need stricter stewarding for one thing. There's no point searches old dears' handbags outside the turnstyles but then letting ed up morons into the ground.

| That just punishes the majority of people who are capable of behaving themselves.

| banning alcohol is not the answer,as as been said why penalise the majority ,the only answer is to catch those responsible and come down heavy,if that includes jail time,so be it.to ban alcohol means the yobs have won.

Easier said than done. Was anyone arrested and charged after the Rovers supporter hit his own player by throwing a bottle? Was anyone identified last Saturday after the bottle throwing at the semi final? That game was on TV and there would have been plenty of people nearby who saw who the culprits were.

| To be honest I’ve had a few big game experiences ruined by people’s inability to control their alcohol consumption
It’s not that I’m against people having a good time, it’s the fact that certain others have no awareness of how to behave, and couldn’t give a flying stuff of how their behaviour impacts on others

Seriously go on you tube and watch the amount of fights in all those sports/countries caused by drink. You'll find plenty.

| It's not just the violence it's the increasing propensity of people chucking beer in the air in celebration.
The BBC were pretty much encouraging this during the FIFA World Cup last year by showing it happening at fans parks around England and even saying which was the 'best' celebration.
I know most people behave and that stopping everyone enjoying a couple of pints whilst watching the game is punishing innocent people but it's worth it to stop trouble and maybe stop families drifting away from the sport.

Go to any live music gig and watch the mosh pit. £10 for a 2 pint plastic glass and half of it is thrown into the crowd or emptied and filled with urine then thrown into the crowd!!! Modern lack of scruples. I blame Thatcher.

There's a difference between the mosh pit at a gig and a stand full of families at a rugby league game.

I agree. The reality is that most clubs have sections of supporters who cross a behavioural line. Clubs have no interest in dealing with them - attendances are compromised as it is and they want the bar turnover, and the RFL don't want a light shining our hooliganism issue. I suspect what we will get is a couple of Wire fans being "banned for life" (not enforceable), a comment from both clubs trying to deflect from the issue by talking about the majority of well behaved fans, and a £20k fine for Warrington's owner who is worth £157m.
The unintended consequence of this continuing as you say is that families are put off. We have a real opportunity here as a sport to take a moment of self reflection and launch a positive, take a stand initiative, being transparent about the issue and encouraging fans to call out what's unacceptable and galvanise around a family theme. With the ladies game taking off and reserves back next year this could be a good time to reinvigorate the "club" mentality and differentiate ourselves positively from other sports. It won't happen, but something needs to change or Wembley could get messy.

| The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. " Burke" I believe.
Not many are prepared to stand, and deliver the wrong doers to their fate.
Most, can be trusted to attend and behave.
Just because the few can't behave, doesn't mean the many should suffer.
Get tough with the few.
