| notice the wakefield v warrington game has resulted in a total of 12 matches suspension for 4 players. there were no red cards in the game, yet you could easily make a case out for all 4 to have been send offs. 2 dangerous throws which should have been seen by at least one of the officials - one of these deemed as bad as the brett ferres judging by the length of suspension, and one of these throws resulted in an injured player leaving the pitch. in addition the charges of sustained punching are clear red card offences and must have been seen on the day. looks like the report cop out has been used again, and i suppose you might argue that there was consistency within the match by not having any red cards. not many folk want to see an 11 aside match but we must also have consistency from game to game. jason crookes does a careless and lazy high shot and is immediately up and apologising yet gets a red AND 2 game ban. a few years ago radford lays into bailey after provocation and also gets a red and ban for the same offence as the ones in the weekend game.
the benficiaries are now the clubs who will be up against these 2 in the next few games. it is also fairly clear that there are some refs who seem to hide behind the report system rather than take more drastic action. i can see us having to do something about red cards - you either have them or you don't, then at least there is the opportunity for players to be dealt with on a more even level

| To not send both of the players off who were fighting in the cas game was ridiculous. They were really laying into each other. I've not seen the dangerous throws from the wire game but something needs to be done to get the refs to take responsibility. Maybe they should be fined £500 for every player they don't send off who subsequently gets a ban. That would learn them

In theory it was a good idea, but it has been abused by referees to avoid making decisions. Used properly it would work well, its just never has.

| I always thought on report was used to allow the disciplinary to examine an incident in case things had gone on that the ref and TJs hadn't or couldn't see, in addition to punishing what has been seen or happened. Now it seems to be used as a cop out to avoid them having to make an on field decision.
If there have been, for example, dangerous throws that go on report then stick the culprits in the bin so the team suffering the challenge at least gets some benefit. All on report does is (potentially) give the team's next opponents a possible advantage as a player may be missing.

| I've posted on this before...you can punch a player make a head high tackle, dangerous horizontal tackle or grapple & stay on the pitch, but lay on & prevent a try & receive a yellow card for "professional foul" RFL is a complete joke.

It actually depends who you play for as well. Same ref Silverwood put Bowen on report in round 1 for a worse high tackle than he sent Crookes off for. I've no problem with the Crookes sending off in isolation but the fact that the same official applies a harsher punishment to arguably a lesser serious offence tells you all you need to know about the mind set of some if not all officials.

I'm pretty sure Bowen didn't get a ban either. It was a very bad tackle too, Worse than Crookes'

He didn't - but then again he had to go and play a game in Aus the week after.

I think the idea of fining the officials for not dealing with things on the pitch is a good idea in theory but as we all know they are untouchable and seemingly unaccountable for their actions and even lack of.
The 'On Report' system when it initially came out seemed like a good idea and at first seemed to work ok, however the system is now being abused by the ref's who dodging decisions they are in the job to make and being paid for. This I believe has led to a slide in the standard of officiating at games.
The Bowen tackle is a classic example of one of the worst examples of a high shot and was clear red card offence but both the officials and RFL decided it warranted no action but yet Crookes who's was far less intentional and lazy attempt get carded and banned. I have no issue with the card issued to Crookes as I do think it warranted it but yet again we see a level of inconsistency its unreal.
The continuation of these inconsistencies and the lack of attempt by the RFL etc to rectify these leads to the question of whether there is a stacked deck when it comes to certain teams etc.

even more so for the twisting of a players limbs, such as that which happened to heremaia in the first game of the season. this is potentially one of the most dangerous incidents of foul play, yet is rarely punished anything other than retrospectively. can't understand why refs don't see these things more often - they should be looking at the contact after all
