| Fractured bone in his foot according to James Smailes on Twitter.
Gutted for him, had another season of high consistency. Top player.

| Real shame for him and us. We need to invest in sports science to help with these injuries as we get too many.

All the investment in the world can`t help these injuries/incidents. Pure bad luck, end of..

Another mis-diagnosis? We were told he had a break, then he didn't but ends up he does. Hope he didn't start training again which has lead to this now being a season ending injury. Sports Science needs to be high on the agenda, which AP has already alluded to.
Gutted for Whiting, one of my favorite players

Just been on a tour around St George's Park near Burton the FA's new training centre for England teams. The sports science infrastructure there is totally mind blowing from the fitness and rehab equipment through to the medical staff. The increased exposure to higher quality sports science that AP has talked about can only improve us - if it's good enough for these elite teams we should be getting a slice of it.

| Sports science is very important but injuries such as fractures are down to over training or a freak accident. You could have all the sports science knowledge and technology but injuries such as fractures will always occur. I'm no sports scientist but it doesn't take one to know that fractures can occur at any given time and in some cases cannot be prevented. The majority of injuries are down to over training/ overload.

AP would disagree with you. As would I. Sports science is massive these days and it could help with some of injuries.

Maybe I`m missing something along the `Sports science` lines!
Have `sports science` knowledge cured breaks and fractures?
Thought not.

No but it will aid recovery from lots of things from training to knocks and different injuries.
It will also help if things are not misdiagnosed.
