| Mods please keep this open for a while so I can get some decent replies please, cheers.
The current insurance policy I am with now has roughly 3 months left to go before it runs out, although I am getting a new car before the end of the month and will be changing insurance groups therefore cancelling my current policy shortly.
So what I would like to know is, because I won't be finishing this years insurance off with my current policy. Will I be able to transfer the remainder of my NCB over to the new insurance I will be taking out? Obviously I don't want to lose this years NCB.
TIA.

| I asked them about changing it, but the wanted almost £400 off me for changing over and I don't owe anything near that amount of money!

| Why are you cancelling? Can't you just transfer the cover onto the new car? If you cancel you will probably not get a full pro rata return premium for the unused 3 months especially if you've only been with the current insurer less than a year and you will lose the whole year's NCB. The latter only applies or has an effect if you currently have less than the maximum NCB entitlement. If the current insurer will insure the new car the chances are that just doing a substitution of car will be the most cost effective way to deal with this. ( I'm an insurance broker but we don't handle private motor stuff.)

| The reason I am cancelling is because when I asked them how much it would be to swap my insurance over to my new car they said it would cost me £230 and then £130 for the remaining time of the current policy. Far more than I owe them over the next 2 months. So I've priced up the a new insurance for and it's hell of alot cheaper than that.

| To make a decision you need to know how much they'll give you back if you cancel so you can figure out if switching to the cheaper insurer works out to be cheaper overall.

What the cancelation clause in the policy says. In the first year of a policy you will be penalised. Best way is to ask them. If they think you're switching they may reduce their premium so give em a call.

| just carry on insurin your current car until you get your year no claims then cancell it, if in the meantime u need to drive your new one then take out the new contract with the other company, that'l be your cheapest option even if your paying out for 2 policies for two months, gotta be cheaper than payin 400 quid to change!

| Can't you simply de-register your current car, use the space on your policy to add another car until you are able to find a long term solution. So long as you do not buy your original car back and expect to put it back on your policy, I can't see a problem
