I'd agree, but with all wireless routers you need to think about the size of the property and how/when it was constructed, I know plenty of people who bimble down to PCWorld, buy whichever router looks nice and shiny and get it home, only to find the signal isn't strong enough throughout the house etc.

Draytek are the most stable and best performance/quality IMO but can be quite expensive.
Netgear are the excellent price/performance ratio!!

| Stay clear of Belkin who have gone downhill in recent years. Netgear are a decent cheap option and the DG834 (Various models) is a good option.
Draytek are very good but for the average user they are a bit pricey.

Karoo used to supply Thomson routers (may still do as well) Karoo tend to supply whatever compatible router they can get the cheapest.

You were told incorrectly.
FWIW, Netgear are good routers - so even if the advice you got was a bit misleading, the result is a good one.

| Had the Netgear Rangemax for a while, and just bought the Netgear DGN1000.
Very good and only £50 from PC World (spit)

| I wanted to get the kids online with their pc and rang karoo and asked for a router and the dongle package as I was still using a modem,
they charged me 40 odd quid for the router and £16 for the dongle but then in the same call explained I was on an old package and would I want to change? so I did.
the router and dongle arrived 2 days later and I got it all set up for the kids and in readiness for the new package in 7 days time and a day before it was activated in the post came another new fecking router that is given out as standard when you switch.
There was still 2 weeks before I actually paid for the first one so I explained I didn't need this one and would they take it back and cancel the 40 quid payment but they just said sell it if you don't need it.
so they robbed me of 40 quid and I gave it away for free but the good news for you is I checked their value on ebay and the same router is on there for about a tenner brand new , its a Thomson v585 but you will need the dongle too which shouldn't be much.

Don't touch the Thompson stuff, it's garbage.
ANY router will work with Karoo, there is no way the broadband signal knows what type of box it is connectiong to, only the branded (Sky/Virgin etc.) one's sometimes don't work.
As has been said, go Netgear, pay what you feel comfrotable paying and follow the instructions, and make sure you secure the connection!
