| do any of you guys think the standard of video ref decision's have gone down the pan ,not just the rovers one on sat, but from game one? i cant remember who it was who scored but the leeds one first game of the season when he plonked the ball on the defenders leg and it was still given as a try?? i think there has been at least one call per game(which have been on sky) which have been wrong decisions IMO

| Simple answer to eradicate the occasional error - have three video refs. In the way you have three judges in boxing (five for the Olympics) by having a majority, the occasional error by one guy would usually (you'd assume) be outweighed by the two correct judgements.
Should also have the ref miked up to explain the decision as they do in NFL. NFL not perfect (officially they get 97% of decisions correct) but at least you know why the decision is made.

| the biggest factor for me is that we've gone 12/13 years with very very few bad decisions, using retired referees and qualified officials outside the top ranked 'active' referee's to the current system where we use a panel of 6/7 officials who'll referee a SL match, then the next day act as video ref for another game and come up with some absolute howlers on a near enough week to week basis. The most baffling thing for me is that certain referee's adopt different rules and interpretations depending on wether they are 'live' or officiating via video. Very frustrating, as is the current level of refereeing consistency

| I think the decision for rovers' last try on Saturday was one of the worst I've seen. He dropped the ball FFS and unless he get's it back under control, which he didn't, there's no way it could be anything but a knock on.
Remember we also got 2 very dodgy VR decisions at Salford in 2006 so it's nothing new

| The issue about rules is an interesting one and something I have tried to examine in the Diary this week. The fact is if referee's agree say to allow a play the ball in open play with no foot contact then I guess it is in the spirit of keeping the game going, however when a video referee see's it he MUST follow the rules as per the rule book, you cannot have interpretations of laws when tries and sometimes games are at stake, he has planty of time to look it up and it has to be the law as written down in the rules. I don't pick on Rovers particularly because as a lot of you say its not just them but that try on Saturday when the Rovers player clearly did not touch the ball with his foot before a try was scored it should have been ruled out! What bl*ody right has a video referee to'Interpret the rules' at a whim! If the rules don't work change em but don't make em up!
For me, Mr Cummins and Co seem to have a meglomanic streak and they are now the power brokers in the game… the fans and the clubs have no chance, or means of criticising, no chance to comment, and Cummings and his merry men have worked themselves into a positoion where now they are immune from being sacked/disciplined! Keith Senior in his outspoken comments after the World Club Challenge got Ganson, and the rest of them spot on for me, he had to apologise afterwards, although I suspect a lot of the senior officials at a lot of the clubs would secretly concur entirely with his comments!
As for video referee's, the biggest mistake they made was when they got rid of the retired officials and ex players that did it and handed it to the crazy gang!! In the past they invariably got it right by the rules. Its a totally closed shop and seems to be above the clubs the fans and even the RL, power corrupts absolute power corrupts absolutely!
Sadly they are ruining our game!
Sorry about that rant over!

Have to say I think he was right to ignore this one. I reckon 80+% of PTB's do not touch the player's foot. They could probably go back to the PTB at most tries and disallow it for the same reason. Would just be opening a huge can of worms if they'd disallowed a try for it.
Also thought there was sufficient doubt about the Ainscough "try" to give it BOTD

Because the RFL have decided to allow referees to totally ignore incorrect play the balls the video ref had no choice but to allow Murrells try. It was a shocking decision but they brought it on themselves.
The same with Watts try. It used to be that you had to have control of the ball and downward pressure. Now it is just contact with the ball when it hits the ground. Another case of the RFL ignoring the fundamentals of the game whilst concerning themselves with new stupid rules like "no dragging" and calling held when "one foot" is off the ground.

| Jake the Peg, I Completely agree I am just trying to make the point that the rules of the game state, 'Heeled backwards by the tackled player', if we are going to changed that to waived a leg at the ball then change the rules. If you let the referee's interpret the rules you get inconsistance from one to another. The problem I always say about new comers trying to understand our game is that the rules allow for too many grey areas. take for instance when you kick a ball and it hits someone and goes into touch; in the old days, it was head and ball to the kicking side. Now the referee has to decide whether the player went for it. Its a grey area. to keep the old rule would simplify and make undersatndable and uncontroversial the whole situation and cut out an interpretation by the ref.
Sorry that was all I was trying to say!

| A video ref see the same has the supporter all he has to do is make a decision TRY or NO TRY ..the rules state downward pressure under "control" If the same happen in the field of play and a player loose control the ref would call knock on ..Ganson last Friday put his hand in the air to single last tackle then Quins passed the ball and he let play go on again the rules state once the hand is raised and you don't play the ball properly it's a penalty to the other side ..This lot of ref are making a laughing stock of rugby league ..They answer to know one ..Its just not my team Hull F C ..I watch games on Sky and feel sorry for other teams supporters who see they team loose to bad decisions that these ref make .. Don't tell me it even its self out over the season to me it doesn't ..once you team as lost nobody say you were robbed and the 2 points given back to your team
