Just having a think about the prop situation next year. Personally, I think the ideal number of props in the squad would be six (2 workhorses, 2 impact players and 2 younger players).

Who do we have signed for next year? Just Dowes and Lauaki so far?

If so, that gives us a workhorse and and impact player (?). Out of the other props in the squad (Cusack, Thacks, King, Moa and Maloney), I'd like to see us keep Thacks as our second impact prop and Maloney as a younger player. I dont expect Cusack to stay and I haven't rated King for the past few seasons. I'm not fully decided on Moa. Can we go into 2010 with only six props, him being one of them, or do we need that extra cover player?

Lynch would be an ideal signing, it would leave us with:

Dowes (workhorse)
Lynch (workhorse)
Lauaki (impact)
Thackray (impact)
Maloney
Other signing or Moa.

I've seen the rumours regarding Kite, but I haven;t seen much of him.

Can't see us getting Kite, I think our next overseas signing will either be a fullback or a centre, hope the rumours about Lynch are true though.

King is under contract for next season you also have radford who is basically a prop

Lauaki is really a second rower who has filled in at prop

I'd like to go with 2 work horses, 3 impact and 1 younger one with Maloney being the latter.

Lynch is more than just a workhorse like Cusack and Dowes are. He has a clever offloading game aswell.

I like king, hopefully he will continue to get better and cut out his stupid penalties

If he is I would release him but I am sure he signed a 2 year extention

On the quota rules for dummies; the SL website says 6 overseas player, that link says 8. Does anyone know for definite which is right/up to date?

Back on props, isn't Fitzgibbon likely to play there too? If the Lynch rumour turns out to be true ( ), that would give us the following under contract for next year already:

King
Lauaki
Fitzgibbon
Lynch

Add in Radford and that leaves Cusack, Thackray, Maloney and Moa battling for probably no more than one spot and no room at the inn for the others. Our unfortunate retention policy biting us really, or can we afford to keep a spare prop over what we need until we can trim some more at the end of next year?
