Australia Crowned World Champions After the Battle of Brisbane
As dawn broke on another sunny Brisbane day, judgement day had finally arrived. After twenty-seven group and knockout games the best two sides in the World, Australia and England, would meet at the Suncorp Stadium to decide the World Champions.
The bookies and the pundits gave England slightly less chance than that of a ‘snowball in hell’ and with considerable disruption to the side through the loss of skipper Sean O’Loughlin and hooker Josh Hodgson, Wayne Bennett knew his side would need to play not only their game of the tournament, but that of their lives, to win the ultimate prize.
The question on everyone’s lips was whether England would roar like lions or go like lambs to the slaughter.

| Now will I be listened to? Bennett to go,also all his back room staff, bring in Powell as head coach,he’s had his day in the sun at cas,get McDermott and radders as his assistants and kick out all Aussie based players and bring in new blood, players that the Aussies don’t know much about ,we have four years to do this,if we get hammered along the way, well tough! England footy have shown the way, lets be brave!

One of the sillier things I've read on here.

| Bennett f'ckd up, left behind players that were better than those in the 17, played Currie who was injured, no replacement for SoL, Heighington brought on too late and as per was ineffective. Burgess junior not fit to lace Watts or Taylor's boots, attacking tactics were gash and execution poor, panic play too often, that's down to the coach for the most part.
Needs to go with immediate effect.

| After having a couple of days to digest the defeat,I still think we need to totally rebuild,Gale is not any where near world class,I think the abject showing in the grand final proved this, yes he’s good on castlefords tylittle pitch but goes missing in other games,a lot of the players picked, were to me chosen on the advice of Betts& p45 cock,I still say get rid of the lot& surely if we have to rely on oloughlin and bringing assistant ref Tompkins back, then we can look forward to another decade of being 3 rd in the world!

Blah blah blah, you attack posters opinion and yet cannot even rebuff the arguments as to why you think they're wrong, frankly you should get back on the seven seas yourself!

| I personally think this was our best chance for 30 years to win it, that was probably one of the weakest Aussie sides I have seen.
As said above I think he got his side wrong, Bateman should have been in the backrow, Percival at centre, Williams should of have been given a run at 6,he is 10 times the player Brown is.
Mcmeeken and Taylor should have been in the 17.
IMO this side would have won the final
Widdopp
Mcgillvary
Watkins
Percival
Hall
Williams
Gale
Hill
Roby
Graham
Bateman
Whitehead
Burgess
Walmsley
Taylor
Mcmeeken
Lomax or Currie

This is why he should go for me. If we're going to be successful over the next few years we need someone who is fully committed to the England job and not busy coaching an NRL team throughout the year. The England squad is going to change and evolve over the next 4 years and is a guy based over in Australia and too busy at club level the right man to see who should be the players we move ahead with.
The England coach should be based over here, watching SL players in action week in week out, in constant contact and meeting with those that are in his squad, those that could be in the future, those on the fringes or dropped out, at the mid season get togethers.

Head coach Australia Wayne Bennett
Assistant coach England Denis Betts
Assistant coach England Paul Anderson
First team coach England Paul Wellens
Team manager England Jamie Peacock
So, Betts, Anderson and Wellens... hardly proven RL Coaches!
