COOKE RELEASED BY WILDCATS
Wakefield have released former Hull and Hull KR stand-off Paul Cooke.
The 29-year-old former England international began the season at Hull KR but quickly fell out of favour with coach Justin Morgan and in March the Wildcats took on his contract to the end of the season.
Cooke made 18 appearances for Wakefield but played in only one of their last four matches and coach John Kear, who had charge of the player at Hull, confirmed today that he would not be offering him a new contract.
The Wildcats also announced the departures of prop Kyle Bibb, who has had a loan spell at Harlequins earlier this year, and second rower Paul Johnson, who has been linked with a move to Crusaders.
Wakefield had already announced that captain Jason Demetriou would not be offered a new deal, while hooker Tevita Leo-Latu and centre Sean Gleeson have signed for Salford.
Kear said: "We'd like to thank all these players for their contribution to the Wildcats and wish them all well in the future."
The Wildcats are thought to be in negotiations to bring Harlequins loose forward Rob Purdham to Belle Vue.
The England international has a year left on his contract with the Londoners but is keen to move back north to be near his family following the death of older brother Garry earlier this year.
