Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |

Can't say I am surprised or disappointed as feel he has done and brought very little to SL during his time. then again you have to wonder if he was able to do things and make the changes are was in essence more just a spokesperson with certain SL chairman across the other side of the pennines dictating?

I think its more like he has been sacked.
Done very little apart from spending a lot of money which hasnt in any way enhanced the game.
Getting rid of Toronto was another of his mistakes as he seemed to be the spearhead of their departure.
That said i understand he wanted Toulouse to take the Super League and wasnt happy when Leigh were voted in.

| One way or the other he had to go I guess. He made some bad decisions and appointed (and took from the RFL) far too many staff for it to be sustainable and the spending at the centre of the organisation was far too high. I'm not surprised he has gone though, because he was also hung out to dry on several issues and made a scapegoat when the clubs ill thought out plans have gone wrong. But be careful what you wish for because I bet now for 'political' and financial reasons clubs will decide to go back under the RFL and that organisations track record on running things is hardly a glowing one. So, once again, in effect the game will be run By Mr H and his mate from across the Pennines. As soon as Elstone got on the wrong side of the most powerful club bosses his time was always limited.
Fact is As a game we are skint and desperately need new money coming in and cannot completely rely on TV funding anymore, because now Sky know our predicament, they are holding us to ransom with a reduced rights offer on last time. No one wants to know Rugby League at present thus Elstones ill thought out attempt to get Equity Funding. However he came with a good track record and if he couldn't get more sponsorship and profile into Super League I don't know who can but I do think that it won't be the RFL. On the other hand it's hard to see what the Super league Clubs will do to replace him. As was said above has he jumped off a sinking ship? Interesting times ahead. Just my views of course and no doubt many more will think differently.

All very good points Wilf.
Very worried about the future of Rugby League at the moment, reduced TV money expected, a ban on betting sponsors mooted which would wipe out more income, some fans may drift away due to being out of habit or out of pocket from Covid...and instead of a clear plan and leaders driving it we have a load of Chairmen arguing, and often arguing about trivial matters like 'shall we have 3 Loop games or 4?' whilst the sport crumbles around them.

There's a good chance that there will be full-time RL clubs in England for a long time to come. In any case, I'm sure the NRL will come in and help if needed, Clint Newton was over here a few yrs ago talking about this, he wants the people who employ him to have the opportunity to come over here and play towards the end of their playing careers; and I suppose for them to have the chance to get on the coaching ladder. Maybe I would then get to see regular 3 match series between England and the Kangaroos.

| My personal view is that the game needs greater representation at board level of white, 50+, Northern, self/own club-interested "RL man and boy" types to take the game forward for the digital generation. Launching the Andy Farrell funbin on Marine Way could be a right gimmick.

A sport that has a lucrative sponsorship deal with a mushy peas manufacturer is not to be underestimated.
Christ I've I've just realised. I'm 50+, Northern, have yet to embrace new technology and love mushy peas. I'm in that demographic
Bring back Eddie Waring, dogs running on the pitch "proper" scrums and Rugby League will be back on Grandstand in no time at all.

30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.
