| So, after last night's defeat (I wont go on about it much) wigan were the better side, deserved the win (even with some dubious decisions from kendall). We gave all we had, but still fell short.
Now, moving forward. What do we need to go further next season? My opinion is, we need a new coach. Last has done well to steady the ship and got the lads enjoying playing again. But for me, not enough to get the job full time. I think we need fresh ideas , someone established. Good style of play etc.
I think we need a new running stand off, keep conner at fb. Then, depending on what goes on with Jones, look at bringing in some more impact from the bench. Fash gives his all and tackles well, but doesn't offer much punch in attack.
What's everyone else's thoughts?

| I don't think wholesale personnel changes are required (let alone feasible).
Definitely need a new stand-off who is a running threat.
If Jones goes we need a replacement however this could either be a direct 2nd row replacement or another prop. If its a prop then Sao can play 2nd row if needs be.
I think the biggest change needs to be line speed. We consistently give up so much ground just waiting for the opposition.
As for a coach, I think a new influence would be welcome. However I'd rather us not appoint someone just for the sake of it. If the right person isn't out there atm then I'd support Last for another year. He's done enough to make me optimistic that we would be a solid outfit under his leadership.

INS; (what I think we need)

If we get Swift fit we have some pace.
I'd love us to make a bid for Sam Tomkins leaving us with a quota spot for a forward.

| Although if we want pace I wouldn't mind the Senior who is one loan at Wakey, make it part of the Jones deal.

Can see us offering Swift out. Won't be on a small wage, and his performances earlier in the year were poor.
Lots of wingers out there that can offer more, for less money IMO

| If Connor stays at FB, Shaul to the wing perhaps? Decent under a high ball and has pace.

I would. Same height as Regan Grace, deceptively strong, and can focus on just playing a running game than being a pivot.
Out for the most of next year though

Like who, harsh to judge him on what 5 games, in fact he played well in his last game before injury,I'm sure he scored two good trys didnt he.
If I'm getting rid of a back it would be Fonua, quots spot, one of our highest paid players and really hasnt performed.

| I'd like to see the quota place used for an NRL stand off. No idea who is available though. I can't think of anyone in SL who fits the bill either.
Also like to see another prop. I don't think our fringe props are that effective in truth. Maybe Eddie Battye? certainly impressed when on loan at Wakey. Old fashioned name and old fashioned physque. Plays with heart and aggression though.

Completely agree. He was brought back for sentimental reasons and hasn't played anywhere near as well as he did in his first spell. Unless a new coach believes he can unlock Fonua's best form, I'd look to move him on and reinvest his salary more sensibly.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |
|
| ... maybe you could explain how you "move on" an underperforming player with 2 years of his contract (and salary) still to run.

I have to agree with you. I said at the time we should have used the quota spot for another forward. We could have made Ratu a better offer unless is mind was set on RU.

| Biggest priority is a 6. If we get a fee for Jones that might give us some money to tempt a contracted player.
I don't watch the NRL so have no idea about players over there.
Thinking on players in SL...
Lolehea? Was poor at Leeds but has done well at Salford. No guarantee of replicating that form with us though.
Trueman? Looks a good prospect. Doubt Cas would part with him however.
Sezer? Possible swap with Jones. Can't see Watson countenancing that.
Pickings appear slim currently.
I suppose another option could be to move Connor to 6 and look to recruit a more ball playing fullback.
