| Being rather bored I thought about who the best home grown players were that I had seen playing for Hull. The following is a dream team of players since the late 60's, when I started watching in earnest (rather than just going with my Dad), of those players from the Hull area who have played for Hull. It therefore excludes greats who we think of as our own (Clive Sullivan, Arthur Keegan et al) but who were not from around here. I would be interested in other people's views. I have not researched it in that much detail so apologies if I have included or excluded anyone incorrectly on the basis of where they are from.
Richard Gay
Paul Eastwood
Steve Portz
Kirk Yeaman
Howard Firth
Paul Cooke
Richard Horne
Mick Harrison
Lee Jackson
Lee Crooks
Lee Radford
Len Casey
Mick Crane
One conclusion is that we can produce lots of good forwards locally but we struggle a bit in the backs. I can easily suggest a good alternative pack of King, Houghton, Dannatt, Rose, Boxall, Divorty.

| What stands out is that in 50+ years we have only managed to produce 2 international players in positions 1 - 5, Paul Eastwood and Kirk Yeaman, both good players but neither outstanding. No disrespect, but the fact that Richard Gay, Steve Portz, Steve Dennison (really a loose forward) and Howard Firth feature in 'home grown dream teams' underlines this dearth of talent.
Looking forward to watching young Ben Crook's development.

If I remember correctly Kevin Sinfield was played at hooker in those games too.

| Richard Horne was selected on the wing for all 3 tests against Australia in 2003 including 1 at the KC despite never playing there before or since for Hull FC. So yes he qualifies but would be in most people's team at half back (some will differ ) .
Tom Briscoe has only played professional RL for FC but is not from the Hull area as is the definition of 'home grown' in the original post. Similarly Dick Gemmell, one of the best 2 British centres I've seen in a black and white shirt - Gary Schofield the other (of course) - made his professional debut for FC in the 60s and went on to represent GB but he was signed from amateur rugby in Lancashire.

| Thanks for the comments. I had considered all of those alternatives except Harry Markham who was before my time. Although Keith Tindall was a good club player I do not think he was in the same league as Mick Harrison who I think was capped when he was 17, remarkable for a prop in those days.
Given that we seem to have difficulty producing local top class backs it is a good job we have been able to enjoy the class of players such as Gemmell, Schofield and Steve Evans, even without considering the Overseas imports.

Wasn't that Paul King? Sure he had a few games at hooker.
