Just been speaking on the phone to virgin media and they are offering internet and phone in Hull.

You can get unlimited broadband along with unlimited national calls for £21 a month (increases to £26 after 3 months)

Same here, but after speaking to Virgin they say they will provide the broadband and phone live even in Hull.

Just got to wait 5 months for my KCON contract to run out.

I have just put hull post code in and:

i would love to get sky broadband and sky talk together as one package to with my current sky tv package is this possible in Hull???

Unfortunately not, I rang sky a couple of weeks back. I'm entitled to free broadband and free calls due to my sky package. But alas this is Hull!

i dont think we can because were in Hull

actually kc will let other companys in but charge 6-99 a month to use there lines which makes it very expensive for other companys to compete that is only the phone lines they have let other companys in on they will not allow anyone into there internet services

They are going to start install in Great Thornton Street area.

If enough people in an area (around 300) show an interest, then they will try and supply for the area.

Just had a look at virgin and it will cost me £24 a month for 40GB limitted broadband, and the speed woud be 1 - 1.5Mbps (that was on the max 20MBps package). The phone is the XL which gives what looks like the same as the minimum KC package (unlimitted national calls all the time).

The confusing bit is it say to take it up I would have to cancel my KC line and take up a BT line then I could get virgin, not sure if this would cost me and this may be the deal breaker.

There is then a standard £30 set up charge but you get a free wireless router.

I think that if we were able to get sky or virgin etc, we would still need to pay for land line rental. So we would have to stick with KC, or pay £11+ per month on top of sky or virgin package price, for line rental.

I wouldnt be so sure about this.

As I understand it (and I could be completely wrong) some time ago all telcos had to unbundle their local loops and KCom were no exception. I think the problem for companies coming into Hull is that, to compete with KCom's services, they would have to reduce various tariffs substantially. Iif they do that for customers (residential) in Hull they have to offer the same deal to all of their other customers which would mean a big hit to revenue. Therefore, they leave Hull alone. As I said earlier, that could be total bollox.
