| Amidst the unbridled optimism of an England victory in today’s final I hope that when the game is consigned to the history books the crowd pays due respect to Darren Lockyer.
I was hoping to be there myself, primarily to see England win a series against the Aussies, but also to be able to say I was there when one of the great players of the modern era played his final game. Unfortunately I can’t be there for personal reasons, but hope that for the good of the game as a whole he is given the ovation he merits.
I remember him breaking through as a powerful full-back in the 97 Bronco’s team alongside the likes of Renouf, Webke, Walters and Langer and he has performed consistently at the highest level ever since.
He’s not only been a great player though. He’s been a great ambassador for the game of rugby league, and well worthy of his statue at Lang Park alongside the King. Whatever the result (and the Aussies will be hyper motivated to end his career on a high) he deserves a great send-off.

| He deserves to go out as a winner and cannot see anything but a win for him and his team tonight.

| A great player mostly observed from the TV in the NRL but one I've had the pleasure of seeing a couple of times live.
The King is dead Long live the King.

| I accept I may be on my own, but I think Andrew Johns could influence a game more then Lockyer. It is certainly both those two that are the best of my generation, though.
With regards to best ever, I never got to see Manninga, Lewis, Sterling, Webcke and Fittler et al, but i assume Locker is top 5 of all time. It's all opinion, I suppose.

If you are not part of the solution then you are more likely part of the problem...: |
|
| Quote: Lang Park "Amidst the unbridled optimism of an England victory in today’s final I hope that when the game is consigned to the history books the crowd pays due respect to Darren Lockyer.

Amen to that.
Legend in my eyes both on the pitch and how he handled himself off it. A pleasure to have seen him play.
Best of luck for the future.
He’s not only been a great player though. He’s been a great ambassador for the game of rugby league, and well worthy of his statue at Lang Park alongside the King. Whatever the result (and the Aussies will be hyper motivated to end his career on a high) he deserves a great send-off.'"

| This 4 nations series has really restored my belief in international RL.
Even though we've not managed to win the comp we've competed with the best and I hope that this can inpire the French, Welsh and PNG et al to do the same.
Here's hoping that WC2013 can restablish RL as a global force.
Thanks DL and everyone else for a geat season.

Lockyer recently said A. Johns was the best player he had ever played against. I would put Wally Lewis ahead of him in choosing between the two Queenslanders. My favourite Aussie player of all time would have to be Brian Bevan who played all his first class career in the UK.

Been one of the [igreats[/i of our game.
I thought Paul Gallen was truly outstanding on Saturday night. His workrate is phenomenal.
