MARK Calderwood fears being left on the scrapheap for Super League XVI.
The 29-year-old was released by Hull at the end of the season following a disappointing campaign in which he played a mere four games for the Black and Whites.
Surplus to requirements at the KC Stadium, he was cast into the wilderness by FC coach Richard Agar and is yet to find a new home to ply his trade in 2011.
And with most top-flight teams already having their squad players in place for the new campaign, the winger fears the worst.
He said: "I haven't got a clue where I'll be playing next season to be honest.
"I'm meeting my agent who's been in Australia on tour with the England team, but time's getting on now.
"I wanted something to be sorted out earlier but maybe clubs have spent their money.
"I'm still hopeful that something can be sorted out but I haven't a clue what it might be. I'll play anywhere.
"I still want to play in Super League but if nothing comes up I'll have to think about going back to work, something I haven't done since I was 17."

| Really feel sorry for Calders, he is definitely good enough to play at this level. Hope he gets somewhere, but I'm fearing the worst for him.

I'd sign him back up as cover, if Tansey is needed in the halves, then Sharpe can move to full back and Calders comes in on the wing. I don't think it will hinder Lynne either, he's only 17, plenty of time for him.
Given Calders attitude and work ethic i think he would be impossible to drop once he got in.

i agree but the problem is if you pay him on a pay-as-you-play contract then even mark might be tempted to give it a miss because he wouldn't be able to guarantee how injury-free he would be. on the other hand we could pay him a small salary but if he only plays 4 games again then we lose out. i'd be gutted for the bloke if he can't get signed with another SL club
FWIW if i was a bradford fan then i think i'd swap calderwood for raynor.

| Sport is a business at the end of the day, and if he can't prove he's up to it then he's going to have to find a new profession. That's the risk when you're a professional sportsman.
I'd love Hull to sign him up, but only on a small wage or a pay-as-you-play. But I don't think that would be in Mark's best interests to be honest. When fit, I'd definitely start him every week.

Spot on Wellsy, but by the sounds of it we ain't signing him again. Would love it if he had him as back-up, would really give us that strength in the backs should/when we get injuries and give Agar those 'selection headaches'.

| I hope Calderwood can find another club. I'd have liked to have seen us give him one more chance if only for the effort he put in when everything around him was going pear-shaped. He's a quality winger on his day and it would be a shame if he was lost from the game at such a young age.

What he said. Good luck Calders

Really like Calders and feel for him but I think the injuries are too much of a risk for us. Had he not suffered those injuries then I don't think we would have signed Sharp.

I agree, but would be great to have in the squad as correct positional back-up rather then make shift cover we are used to.
What is great is that our wingers are very young so they should be relatively injury resistant.

| If he doesn't get with another SL team, then perhaps he would take a carefully worded no risk to the club type of contract, or even a month by month one.
It could be a win win move, as he has much to offer if/when fit.
