Sorry, a bit off topic but whilst we're mentioning Sterlo, an interview with him on Radio Humberside this week.

I'll hazard a guess here and say that photo above was taken at the Yorkshire Cup Final, Boothferry Park (October '84). A favourite Derby, a storming comeback from 12-0 down (and being outplayed) to a rampant 29-12 victory (outplaying them by the end!!) with Sterling at the centre of most of our play that afternoon (when wasn't he at the centre of everything?).


We met again later that season in the John Player final (Jan '85), also at Boothferry, but seem to recall the pitch was covered in snow (think it came close to being postponed) so I don't think the photo is taken from that particular game.


Sterling and Knocker, unquestionably the two finest players I have had the pleasure of witnessing in my time wearing the famous shirt. For those who are too young to have seen them in their prime, I'm afraid you don't know what you missed. Both world-class players with an ability to change a game in an instant. We were so lucky they were ours, even if it was for only a short time.


Oh, for their likes again to brighten our lives
