Quote ="Chris71"For me it's very much a positive for the club that we still have an FC reporter/journalist at the HDM. Whilst some articles maybe similar with a little bit of a rehash at times, the off season is always a pretty slow time for new and/or interesting news but, at least it keeps the club out there in the media especially in a time that Reach Group have been cutting costs.
Let's hope for Dans sake and the club itself that the HDM continue to keep Dan on, as otherwise there'd be very little sports news other than City.'"
Spot on with plummeting circulation and a national base owner it took Dan many months of uncertainty working without a contract to finally prove his worth and get one and that's the sort of commitment he brings. I guess he has to have targets as to the amount of articles he places every week which in the closed season is tough to say the least. but lets face it so far he has given us exclusives on most of our signings, the take over etc way before official announcements and that as fans is all we can hope for. In the end for newspaper owners like Reach its not about service to the community but more its all about number of hits and advertising take up. But his access to players has improved and we have I think suffered in the past with having a Chief Executive who was a media man or at least thought of himself as one which saw the Mail reporters at the time stymied on occasions with the clubs outlets getting sovereignty.
Dan now gets on very well with our new coach who gets the need to keep the fans informed and as Chris says above I think its great to have a bloke who wrote the club fanzine for years and is a dedicated fan as our correspondence. Rovers had the same sort of thing with their correspondence but he looks to have walked already.
