I hope the clubs have put conditions on that advance money, otherwise the Red Devils will sign another player they can't afford.

| Quote: The Dentist Wilf "Great article
I have to admit to not being keen on the Myler appointment I couldn't understand it until things started to unfold and the reasoning behind it became clear. However now I have to eat my words because instead of an untried ex player of dubious character (my words I'm afraid) I find myself buoyed by his talking of connecting with the fans, building again and getting the soul back in the club. What's more, now he's been here a few months it's become obvious that he walks what he talks and his claims actually start to ring true. He'll make the tough decisions and doesn't seems to harbour the sentimental retentions and old pals act that has troubled our club in the past. We have hung onto 'nice guys' far too long.
'"
To be fair to Myler even without the investment connections I thought the reaction to his ‘inexperience’ in that type of role was a bit over the top anyways. I think we all expected a Brian Noble type character with decades of experience when the role was first mentioned but a lot of clubs have gone for not long retired players in similar roles. Fitzpatrick and Radlinski spring to mind there’s probably more. Myler comes across as a man who knows what makes a successful environment and that’s exactly what we needed.

| Regarding Salford.
I'm not sure what the rules and regulations are around situations such as these, but I wonder if it would be circumspect for a two point penalty deduction to be imposed? There are usually sanctions imposed if a club enters administration, and whilst that isn't the case here, there has to be some form of deterrent applied or what's to stop any of the other clubs asking for an advance.
Whatever the underlying reasons for the situation, Salford have dug themselves into a hole of their own making and/or mismanagement and there should be a price to pay of some kind I would have surmised.

Great Post Wilf, as ever (You must have risen about 5am in order to start typing the latest epic!! )
Agree about next season. I'm also far more enthused than I have been for a number of years. We, as a club, still have an incredible amount of work to do before we can be serious challengers again, and I still think next year will be a hard grind to watch (I will be astonished if we were to win even half of our games), but for the first time in a long while we are once more giving the impression of being a serious club with a clear plan of action and people in the positions of authority who look like they have clear ideas of how to get our great club moving in an upwards direction once again.
Only time will tell how far we are going to go (it always does in the end!) but the Fc rollercoaster is open for business again! Like you say Wilf, it's a journey we are on (journey for a lifetime for most of us on here), a journey all together, a journey which may be exciting, hair-raising, with even still the odd car crash on the way, but one thing's for sure, because it's Hull Fc it won't be dull, it never is with us

I'll admit at the end of last season I don't think I'd ever felt so low, so disenchanted, disillusioned, disappointed, disengaged etc in over 40+ years of following FC. However I can say that I don't think I've felt so enthused about an upcoming season and beyond for years, certainly not since it was announced we'd signed Gaz Ellis.
Whilst I the news of Myler coming in as DoR was very much out of left field, I wasn't too concerned as he's been a pretty successful player, playing in some high profile teams. Also in the back of my mind was the fact the club had previously put trust and faith in a recently retired player in Motu and the job he did was none too shabby. That said I think the state of the club as a whole, the shocking situation regards to the playing side of things both Coaching/Support staff & player wise was going to be a tough job even for an experienced guy. However Myler has done and is doing a very respectable job in putting right the wrongs and leading the club in turning things around.
It could be that his inexperience and freshness have played a part in what has happened so far.
He certainly comes across very well and he's honest when he speaks about situations. I don't think anything is lost on him and its clear that unity within the club is an important ingredient that he's working to, across every aspect & level of the club.
For once the club itself actually seems to be singing from the same hymn sheet which is one of the most refreshing signs of change. The fact that Myler, Cartwright and Thirkill along with most fans seem to have the same realisations/expectations about the next year or two is also a positive.
Whilst any success isn't going to happen over night, I think everyone can see from whats been happening and is continuing, is that there is not just real change but a structured plan coupled with a genuine desire to deliver and achieve success.
Nothing is guaranteed in terms of success as has been alluded to by RM, JC & AT but with the above in place I think the club have done and are doing more than enough to earn the backing of the fans.
