Quote: Marcus's Bicycle "No problem. Bevan French and Jai Field signed sealed and delivered I've heard.
On a slightly more serious note we've been linked with Byrne. Probably not going to happen but what are your thoughts on him?'"
Frustrating in all honesty. When he plays with intensity he's a very solid and effective prop but ultimately has been too inconsistent. Seems to lack a bit of leg drive as well. That being said, he was in the best run of form in his career at the end of 2023 before injury hit and really imposed himself with and without the ball. Struggled with the new disciplinary rules early on in 2024 but ended the year as a regular in the 17 and did a good job for us. Still think there's untapped potential there but unsure whether he'll fulfill it.
When he hits some form Peet clearly rates Byrne as the 3rd best prop after Thompson and Havard. But Wigan might consider letting him go if they feel confident that Tyler Dupree, Harvie Hill and Sam Eseh will step it up next year, Byrne may want to go if he's unhappy playing off the bench at Wigan and/or he wants a longer term contract.
