cartoons/WB17.gif I've been on the internet and have already got a sense of the fans' passion for the club. They are very fanatical - Peter Gentle 12th September 2011.
Money doesn't talk it swears, Obscenity who really cares, Propaganda all is phony.
I'm the son and heir of a shyness which is criminally vulgar.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.

| Fairly obvious I know, but a win next Thursday would be a real tonic for the troops!
It's always nice to get a win first game, and doubly so when it's a derby, but more importantly from our perspective a win would put some energy into the fanbase which, as we all know, isn't feeling exactly optimistic about the months to come.
If we lose this game, then take a bit of a pasting at Wire the following week (although it's anyone's guess how Wire will go under Burgess) we run the danger of everyone feeling the season's almost gone by the time we've arrived at week 3!
Smith has a number of crucial decisions to make, that's for sure. Does he put all the big guns in the pack to start with and knock rovers out of kilter from the off? but that runs the risk of our level dropping alarmingly once we start interchanging.
In the halves, I suspect he'll go with Hoy/Brown and Walker at FB, not convinced it's ideal but likely to be what he settles on.
It's always difficult to predict opening games, there's no real form guide to go by, but think we need the win more than them for the reasons stated above. A defeat for rovers isn't going to derail their campaign, but for us it will probably increase the downbeat air surrounding us, so I'm hoping that might give us an extra push, especially if it's a close game.
I've been going to derbies since the 70s and I've watched too many where beforehand it has seemed so obviously slanted towards one of the sides only for it to go completely the other way on the day, so who knows really? Let the fun commence, eh!!

| Quote: Dave K. "You raise some decent points, but not sure what age has to do with anything, he is a lot younger than both Bellamy, Hasler and Bennett, who are all coaching at some of the best NRL teams, Ricky Stuart is the same age too.
I think looked sharper, because they have a better side, even at full strength, they are better than us, take away 5 starters, 2 in game injuries and self inflicted red and yellow cards, then you can see why they won easy, not sure it has anything to do with pre season training. It's down to two things, better players and mentality.
Agree with your other points though.'"
What does Stanley Gene bring to the table in terms of Coaching, we all know Smiths credentials but just not sure what Genes are other than Smith trusts him.
Even taking in to account our obvious deficiencies we looked so far of it on Thursday it was as though they'd all just got together for the first time that night.

| For me it was our backs what looked second rate. Yes we have injuries but boy did we look weak. I know Tuime and Sutcliffe aren't world beaters but boy do we need them back. Martin definitely looks the part. Smith and Brown invisible most of the time.

| Halfback situation im hoping Hoy and Trueman can stay fit and get us by, needs majorly addressing though.
Backs we massively lacked the man strength of Sutcliffe and Carlos. Lewis Martin coped but i thought Litten and Walker are very lightweight bringing it out from the back, we need better options to get us out our half.

Get your point about Hasler etc but I just think he’s a bit long in the tooth, old ideas and methods. Same with Stanley Gene, absolutely cracking player but what coaching credentials does he have ? Think I’m just looking for reasons. If Rovers had better mentality is that down to coaching ?

| 2 words BRIAN SMITH
That is all anyone needs to know about the impact coaches can have and what you pay them for.
I chatted to an ex NRL UK SL player here in Aus and he was quite interesting about how he talked about different coaches that we all know.
Matt Elliot/Dave Furner etc
He said some of the coaches were bang on average and some were amazing.
Yet we may all have thought they were high pedigree.
We really need the reincarnation of Brian Smith but who?
