| If some folks had seen what Ellis does off the field every day at training and the example he sets to everyone as a leader (and that's the important bit) plus the fact that he captained the Immortals of 2016, then although Mini is one of my absolute favourites and a massive hero, he's more reserved and isn't Gareth I'm afraid, although he'd be second after Mr Ellis on my team sheet every time. Gareth is a Hall of famer and in twenty years time when people actually remember the two back to back Wembley appearances and just how amazing a feat they were, it will be with the image of Ellis lifting that Trophy that they do it. They will say wow do you remember him and the memories will come flooding back. Just of course my opinion but for me a real icon of the game has passed into history this week.

| Ellis will probably go down as one of the all time greats not just of our club but in RL altogether.
We have been privileged as Hull FC fans to see such a great player in our colours and be a major force behind the upturn in the clubs fortunes.
He is irreplaceable but thank fully he is remaining a part of the club just reading his piece in the season pass brochure says it all about him.
We have really been blessed with some true greats in the past couple of years. It's impossible to compare the like of Ellis & Mini and unfair to do so as both have been a massive factor in the success we've all craved for. It comes to something when a player like Pritchard comes in and people can't decide if he was good or bad. For me that's due in most parts to the performances of players like Ellis, Mini & Manu without the he would probably have stood out.

I try to defend you, and think you get a lot of unnecessary abuse on here, but that one line has just had me at my desk. Ridiculous statement!

Try to defend me, that made me chortle too, we all have our opinions but you're not being objective, looking at Ellis through rose tinted specs.
In actual on field performance (taking aside captaincy) he's well behind MM, Ellis has being nowhere near his NRL level in attack since his arrival, Minichello by comparison has been twice the player Ellis has in that department (in attack). he makes a heck of a lot more tackle busts, he takes the ball up far more often, he makes a similar amount of metres/carry and all that on the back of more tackles and more minutes per game. Yes Ellis makes a lot of hard tackles and the impact of that is obviously felt, yes he's a great captain and on the field leader but Minichello is the better player and has being through the last three seasons he's been here stats wise or whichever way you want to look at it.
Am I sorry we're losing Ellis, most definitely, but it's the right time for all concerned and means others have to step up to the plate be that Watts, Hadley or MP.

| It's not always about what Ellis did physically, it was his presence and what it did for the other players. Huddersfield at home he made his comeback after injury and you felt the whole team lift at him simply being on the pitch. He truly was captain fantastic and whilst there will be players capable of physically doing what Gaz did, it was the whole mental attitude that will be irreplaceable. Thank goodness he's still around behind the scenes as I hope that will go someway to bridge the gap of not having him on the pitch.

Tripe. Mini is mega. Don't get me wrong. But 2014 Ellis was our player of the year. 2016 2nd in the man of steel
I love a stat more than most. But common sense needs applicating to them as well. 2 different players. 2 different styles. A lot of minis busts are whilst grabbing the line. On later tackle count usually. Wider out vs 2nd rows and centres.
Ellis is often early tackle count carry..through the middle v big men. Defensively they can't be compared.
Ellis when missing from team is far more obvious than when mini is. As good as he is

| Come on Knocker play the game pal. Were just not comparing eggs with eggs here.
Mini is classed as a very good player here at Hull FC and by all his peers too.
In the NRL Mini is seen more in the good player category.
Whereas Gareth Ellis's performances both here and down under have him firmly in place in the legend category, and that's without considering his off the field influence at Hull FC which has infact increased throughout his time with us.
His performances on the field for us, but for a handful of games, have been consistently outstanding. His average game is at a top level.
Gareth Ellis is leaving behind a legacy, his presence here has reinvented the mindset of the club. We are now a club who know how to win, and feel like we can go out expecting to win every game.
He has influenced everyone from the Chairman and the tea lady, just as much as the juniors.
In my opinion Gareth Ellis has had a greater effect on this club than any other player in our clubs history. Including Whiteley, Norton, Sterling and Smith.
I know we all have opinions but ......

As I said in a previous post we have be extremely lucky to have witnessed both Ellis and Mini in the black & white but its impossible to compare the two and unfair. They are both fantastic players and will rightly go down in history as great players for this club.
Its impossible to truly quantify which is the better player as they both have tremendous talent which has driven this club to the success earned along with the other players in the squad.
But purely for the impact his signing has had on the club from day one and the poop comments from rival fans about we've paid over the odds etc for him just shows how regarded he was in the game worldwide when you see the comments from NRL fans down under saying he was a great in their game.
Just wish we could have got one more season from him but more than happy he wants to stay part of the club.

It's not possible to compare different players from different era's, let alone different types of players from the same era. Ellis has been good, very good, not quite sure he's "legendary", but I am not sure what that accolade accounts for nowadays anyway. At least nobody has said he was "iconic"!!
