| I do not understand what all the fuss is about Frank. Granted he did wonders for the club off the field both commercially and socially. His personality endeared him to both the fans and the general public
However he was recruited principally to perform on the field of play for which he was paid very well indeed. My first view of him live was the pre-season game against the Dobbins. He was nothing short of sensational and I was one of many who extolled his virtues after the game and looked forward to a bright future. Sadly he flattered to deceive and never got anywhere near the standard of that first game.
Why was he used as a bench player? He rarely did more than forty minutes and after a few initial dashes would tend to disappear from the game and seldom finished it. For such a big man, with his awesome reputation, he did not break tackles too often and seemed to go to ground too easily.
His concentration too seemed questionable. Remember the intercepted pass he threw out at Wembley without seeming to look, from which Warrington eventually scored against the run of play. What is not often mentioned is that a couple of tackles after their try Warrington chose to attack Frank again with a quick play the ball when he had his back to the play and was just strolling back with a seeming lack of concern. We were lucky that some of his teammates were more alive to the danger than Frank and managed to save the day.
If Frank had stayed with us this season, on the same salary, it would have been most unfair on the many players we have who performed much better and far more enthusiastically and skilfully than Frank.
I wish him well in Oz, but I do think that the club has done the correct thing in letting him go.
