Quote: Wilde 3 "Great post.
I've heard in the past that the problem with having too many homegrown players is that for many of them it has been an ambition fulfilled just to play for Hull Fc. Job done. The difference between those players and Leeds/Wigan for example, is they say that want to WIN something for Wigan/Leeds which goes hand in hand with the post I have quoted. We are they type of city that doesn't really seem to breed that win at all costs, be the best you possibly can mentality - just getting to pull on the black and white is achievement enough and that for me is why club Hull is wrong'"
Completely agree, every player that comes through the youth set up at Leeds / Wigan / Saints have the attitude that anyone can make the first team squad and pull on the shirt for a game. What they strive for is to play in a Grand Final or at Wembley and the best think about achieving these things and then playing for and Captaining England in World Cup finals.
Even trying to bring in born winners like Ellis isn't enough to drag the local players in particular along the journey to be winners. I can only think it has to change from the U16 and U19 and as they move through the club the attitude slowly changes.
