Quote: Mild mannered Janitor "This shows the level we have come to. Some hoping that a bloke who coached us 27 years ago can do with full time players what he did to part time players. Brian Smith did good things for us in the passed. That's where he should be left.'"
I'd welcome Brian Smith back.
Yes, he may have been a coach 27 years ago, but has the game really changed that much. It's still 13 v 13, 4 points for a try etc?
Brian Smith was charasmatic, a motivator, who promoted a team ethic. 'We have no Superstars in this team' was one of his quotes. He turned Paul Eastwood and Andy Dannatt into GB Internationals.
He'd improve this team. I'm not expecting him to win the Grand Final next season, but he'd take us forward, he'd make us believe again, he'd make us positive.
We do not have many options. In our situation, we have to get an experienced Coach in and I'd go for Brian Smith or Brian Noble. Steve McNamara would not be a good move, he was woeful at Bradford and escaped with the England job, were he gets to pick the best players in the country - primarily from just 4-5 clubs.
The other option is not to make a change and that would be a disaster.
