| Despite last night's showing, I think Hull F.C is on the up.
That being said I wrote to Adam Pearson following our slaughter in the play-offs against Huddersfield in Sept, 2013. I've included an extract I wrote to him and still believe this is where Hull's real problem is:
"......one suggestion is to assess player performance in the context of how many 'good' games they have in a season. My view is that we are lacking players who can play consistently well week in, week out. We should be developing a squad where the stats prove that all players are putting in 'good' performances on a ratio of 1:3 rather than what I believe could be 1:6 or worse. On a 1:3 ratio that would mean any player would play 9 good games out of the whole Super League season: is that too much to ask of a professional? Apply that across a squad of 17 players and coaching team and this is where I think improvement must be made and where we reduce the number of overall losses, draws, and debacles such as last night."
How this inconsistency is 'coached out,' I don't know but too many players don't seem to know how to either play their way out of a corner or put their xollocxx on the line and fight their way out.

| It's just the beginning of the season for crying out loud. Why are people trying to write us off already when we have only played 4 games which were all quite difficult games anyway. Give it time and see what happens, yes the Leeds result was extremely poor but remember how promising the first half was, as long as we can get some level of consistency, we should be able to do really well.

| Quote: Erik the not red "Back to your usual positive self. The "better players" of the dobbins remain below Hull and there are only 4 teams that are better than 1 win ahead of Hull. If Hudds can improve why can't Hull? A terrible second half in the last game without a doubt but not exactly wrist slashing time yet. How they bounce back on Friday will be a better indication, I'm not expecting a win, even though Wigan have been wobbling of late, but a performance of character after the surrender against Leeds will do.'"
To me, that epitomises our problems. We regularly turn in poor performances, but as long as there is a temporary response the week after, for many all is forgiven again until the next shocker. We need to start playing close to our potential most weeks and not be happy until that happens, not sit and watch dross and think that as long as we turn up next week to show that they're all sorry 'that'll do'. That seems to be a good chunk of the players' approach.

Please don't think I'm that easily pleased and bought off. Perhaps I should have reworded it that the second half effort against Leeds definitely won't do. For all Wigan's woes I think its a bit optimistic or arrogant to assume that a top effort will automatically beat them.

Oh, I don't think we'll beat them. What I was meaning was that 1 performance of character next time out will not do. We've seen that we can bounce back for odd games, what we need is to see performances of character most weeks, so that we aren't having to bounce back so often.

wigan have been woeful though. Snuck past a huddersfield side we beat the previous week, thrown away winning leads against rovers and widnes and dry humped by cas last Friday. Having said that, a home game against Hull is just what they need to get back on track. Long night for us I expect
