As has been referenced previously, it's pretty unthinkable the liabilities weren't identified at time of purchase. There would be recourse to whoever carried out the due diligence, surely?

Of course he knew what he was buying. In my opinion it was all ever only a means to an end. That end should have provided massive potential and tenfold returns.

Unfortunately, it didn't come off. Now he's desperate to offload the white elephant with as much as he can scrape back. Hence the increasingly more frequent hand-wringings in the Wail.

The [uunderlying[/u profitability in this year's SMC accounts is almost breakeven too. The write-off of the historic liability is responsible for the massive loss. And this, of course, existed at time of purchase. Caveat emptor, don't cry after the event.
