Quote: Jake the Peg "It was almost as if wigan were playing a different game to us. Intensity all through the game, winning the collision in both defence and attack, managing the speed of the PTB, running and defending with purpose and plenty of movement off the ball confusing our (admittedly poor) defence.
All of this can be coached, including attitude and commitment'"
I came to the game on Friday fearing the worst after looking at your team sheet. I do agree with the poster. I think the difference is coaching. Wigan very rarely let the performance level slip under Wane. Even when we lose it isn't by many. It is almost as though whoever wears the shirt would run through a brick wall for Wane.
I don't think you get that by just shouting at players. Sure, Wane has his moments but most of the youngsters are HIS lads. He played a big part in bringing them through the ranks and takes great pride in getting them into the first team. He never worries about giving a young lad a debut either. The respect is palpable. Shouting at people only works once - if they don't respond, where do you go next?
Now to me - Hull clearly over reacted getting rid of Gentle. With a better luck they could have won the Challenge Cup. Jamie Shaul's break could almost have swung the game, although credit Charnley for his tackle. The game really was close until Tomkins try somewhat flattered us.
In other words there was a basis on which to build. Hull have some good youngsters especially in the backs - and by the way I believe Chris Tuson isn't going so well. I'd have him back tomorrow. I'm sure he can be a good player for you.
Good luck at Magic.
