Because there's little difference in what you are suggesting. "Free sky sports" is only free to you because you are gaming the system but it's the rest of the subscribers who are subsidising your dishonesty'"

Complete rubbish, his relative is subsidising it not you, your paying for your own subcription.
The bill payer pays to be able to register their account on a set number of devices, it's up to them which devices the choose.

And who gives a sh*t anyway? Murdoch seems to think he can get away with breaking as many laws as he likes and trying to govern the country by proxy. If someone gets one over on him from time to time, good on them, I say.

| To be fair, Murdoch owns a relatively small amount of sky. News Corp own about 39% of BSKYB and Murdoch holds about 12% of News Corp.

However much he might own, he has great influence within both organisations.
Not sure there's even an issue, anyway. Under the SkyGo terms and conditions, provision is made for 'additional users'. As long as you don't exceed your number of devices, I can't see a problem with one of those users living in another house.

There is an offence under the copyright and patents act of dishonest reception of a broadcast with intent to avoid payment.
The fact someone else, somewhere else is paying correctly isn’t a defence for you.
Im not a solicitor or sky though so im not saying you are going to prison or anything, just the principle isn’t just breach of contract.

It is if they're not exceeding their number of devices, I would have thought.
For example, if my father chooses my laptop as one of his devices so that he may watch Sky when he stays at my house (which he does fairly regularly), I don't think there's any way Sky can say that the content may only be viewed if my father is present. How would they prove it anyway?

| Your father, using his account is a different beast to you, living in another house, using his account to avoid paying for an account for yourself.
How they prove it, and whether they would bother prosecuting is a different matter completely.
Im just agreeing with Cod’ead, it is really, in principle, no different to walking in to sainsburys and knicking a bottle of whiskey.

I understand what you're saying but sky offer the facility to create accounts for friends and family to use their sky account elsewhere
so as fair as i can see the copyrights and patents act with regards to sky go is more to do with rebroadcasting streams etc not who you authorise to use your account
