This was a real mess last year with miss information everywhere. I myself spoke to both the RL and the Ethiad Stadium before the weekend and both stated food and drinks would not be allowed into the Stadium. Then when we get there people are going in with bags and even cool bags with pack ups etc. So make what you like of that.
FWIW there are plenty of food and drink outlets to suit everybodies tastes inside and outside the stadium at prices that are reasonable and pass outs are allowed. Were not going to bother with our own food and drink and use the outlets in and around the stadium. Worth adding that you are allowed to drink in your seat as well.
We took food and drink in.....I must admit they were checking bags as we stood in line but as they got to me they didn't bother
I am diabetic so was ready for the argument but as people have said there are loads of outlets
