Quote: Standee "If Westerman kicks on from, lets be honest, being disappointing last season (compared to the hype when he signed) then it will be great, I don't think he'll outstrip Ellis, but I'd love it to happen, especially as I've heard good things about Ellis in the friendlies.'"
The only reason people have been disappointed with Westerman is if they had unrealistic expectations IMO, pretty much based upon the fact that we paid a fee for him.
I would actually say that towards the end of both of his seasons with us he has been amongst, if not out on his own as, our best forward(s), and at no point would I say he has been amongst our worst players. The problem is that some people seem to think that £150k should mean that he should be winning games for us on his own and amongst the MOM contenders every week, when in reality it means no such thing. The ugly truth is that he is a very good player, and the reason we paid £150k is because the club realised that had they waited for his contract to end there was a very good chance that he would have done better than us at that time and gone elsewhere.
A real error amongst our fanbase is this strange belief that players perceived to be expensive should be miracle workers able to perform in any circumstances and without any fluctuations in form. There needs to be more contact with reality.
