No, I'd credit it as an objective view if it was borne out by facts or even just looked to have some sort of credence. There is absolutely no problem with the amount of pace Crooks has though, looking objectively or otherwise. I actually wouldn't have said anything if you'd picked up on any other aspect of his game, but quite frankly I think this lack of pace you mention is just mythical. |

As I mentioned earlier, Wigan tried a version of this scheme a few years ago and were nailed for it. Plus the severance payment has to be agreed by the cap regulator & RFL. They can keep part or all of it on the cap if they think there's monkey-business afoot.
It's not a perfect scheme - none such exist - but it's actually pretty much as good as it's going to get IMO. The latest tweaks have removed most of the loopholes and inconsistencies. |

Right, my point was... He's not THAT fast but he still has a freakish ability to score some fantastic tries even ones from range. It was more a post aimed at writing off Crookes' ability bucause he doesn't have out and out pace.
Briscoe gets caught very regularly and often has to beat the same player more than once..
He did, after all, get caught by the slow Michael Dobson AND Vella in 2008!! |

I think you and Carl S are at cross purposes with me. At no point have I written off Crook on ability. I have said he lacks pace. This, Carl, is not a mythical issue.
Whiting lacks pace, but makes up for it in other aspects of his game.
Briscoe has strength and good footwork in his locker and is a much quicker player now than the one who didn't get caught by Dobson or Vella, despite those two having a head start on him. |

A couple of tries have been conceded because Crooks' opposite centre has been able to beat him for pace on the outside. Duport's for Catalan being a prime example. Not sure that's just down to pace though, and he's certainly quicker than Whiting.
Don't think it's an issue.
