The Cockney Airlie Bird: |
|
| AP essentially spoke about how refreshing it was to be involved in RL, where the players and coaches have an affinity with the fans and can actually relate to then (unlike some footballers who should only be on a fifth of what they earn). He went on and said that in comparison how the likes of Danny Tickle and Danny Houghton go about their business, un such a professional way, was enlightening when compared to football - especially when you consider hat pro RL players put their bodies through each week.
He also said that we have a couple of young (future engish internationals) lined up for next year, which will be a stronger than this season. This is the only way to balance the books (salary cap) when you have a few high earners in the squad. However, PG made a really good point that he is initially looking at his current squad, giving them the opportunity to shine and go from there i.e. recruitment starts at home.
They are seemingly pretty close to sealing the Manu deal, who is seen as a key piece of the jigsaw for PG and they are hopeful that this will be tied up soon. The Ellis signing has brought about a lot of interest from agents representing players, both currently in and coming out of contract, who now realise just how serious the club are over the coming years.
AP mentioned how poor and under-invested the club's infratsructure (players, training, backroom staff etc..) was and how much it was in need of serious money to bring it up to scratch.
Overall, PG was happy with his players and the way they were developing a culture within and throughout the club as a whole. They both came across very well indeed and extremely articulate (as one would expect of someone in their positions). Long term plans coming together, although they remain focussed on this and the next 2/3 years.
Massive rap for the fans, however AP did urge them to get behind Manu (to sign his deal!) and actively encouraged dans to stay out of the boozer and go to the match on Fri - the club desperatley need those 3000fans back to watch them on a regular basis.
Extremely positive - unlike some cup half empty dwellers on this board I could mention - and I suspect really well received by all who tuned in. Onwards and upwards.

| The recession and the dire rugby of the last few years has put people off. Will take a while to get them back.

Thank you Adam Pearson for giving the faithful hope: |

| Quote: UllFC "Was more than 4,000 Rovers fans there in 2007 in fairness, was more like 6/7K.
But I do agree we have lost a couple of thousand 'regular' fans along the way, and need to win them back.'"
To be honest I don't think there was. Their away following has grown every year. In that derby the West upper was Mainly Hull fans, now it's mainly Rovers fans

I said that at the time. Crowds were always likely to drop given the awful crap we had served up by the last regime. I hardly went myself last season. Fortunately, I maintained enough of an interest to return as soon as AP took over. Others will need more persuading.
