RUGBY league legend Johnny Whiteley is to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Hull. The former Hull FC and Great Britain star will receive the degree at a ceremony next week, the university announced today. He will be honoured alongside round-the-world yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, city photographer Lee Karen Stow, former Reckitts director Dr William Walsh, editor of The Archers Vanessa Whitburn and cellist David Chew.
Mr Whiteley was made an MBE for services to rugby league and the community in the 2006 New Year’s Honours List.
The winter degree ceremonies take place at the university’s Middleton Hall on January 26 and 27.
