Whilst everyone loves to be able to say "I told you so" (I could start a long list myself) I'm not entirely convinced that this somehow proves Rule was completely useless in all areas of his job. Mainly because nobody actually knows what his job description actually was, his job title is meaningless if he was just the puppet as many have claimed. The current scandal shows that he was a complete numpty on this occasion, that is all. Whilst some of the praise for him may have been misguided in the past, but entirely understandable on face value in IMO, it's still a leap to now claim that you somehow know all about the day to day running of the club and was able to evaluate Rules performance during his whole tenure. Regardless of any of that I feel a lot safer knowing who we have running the club now.

Plenty of people doubted Kath, Agar and Rule. Is everything they did wrong or bad? No of course not they had some successes and some failures. As many fans have said for some time changes were required and now they have been made we should be looking forward.

Still if some egos are in need of a boost....best get those socks out.

I am sure I will get shot down in flames for this..and have to say I don't necessarily take the view myself.. but while we are now painting a picture of Rule as some sort of pariah going to any lengths to somehow save his own ass as CEO of the club is it just possible he wrongly got involved because he just wanted to save somebody's career after a total cock up?

Aye. When you deal with spin as routinely as he did, the lines get blurred I reckon. It looks like incompetence and maybe arrogance to me, rather than malevolence. Honesty and straightforwardness have come to be seen as for the naive and old fashioned in certain quarters. Spin works, but if you go too far, even for reasons you believe to be good, you can still come a cropper spectacularly. Blair and WMD, while obviously on a massively different scale, being the prime example of the malaise. IMO.
