| Quote OmneFC="OmneFC"if Obst gets a new contract with another club then why would Hull have to pay him off?
I assume the RFL has rules against players being contracted to two clubs simultaneously'"
Obst is contracted for the next season at Hull, and it's the club who wants him to leave as we need the cap space, therefore he's fully entitled to have his contract paid up and quite rightly so.
Obst is now in a position where he can get his contract paid up by Hull, and [ithen[/i sign for another club and get paid by them aswell. He's an idiot if that's not what he does, as he'd essentially be ing a year's wages up the wall.

a pay off should it happen would be to cancel the 2nd year of his contract with hull leaving him free to sign with anybody else. he needs the contract he currently has cancelling before he can sign a new one.

| as far as i am aware Hull are not pushing Obst out of the door, they are simply saying that you have fallen down the pecking order and are not likely to get much game time and that you are free to negotiate with other clubs should he wish to do so, if he does and agrees terms with another club he will then ask for his release, if he doesn`t he stays its as simple as that.

I'm not sure it works that way, if Obst leaves it will be his decision, and that will therefore render the 2nd year of his Hull contract void. We are not paying him off, we are letting him leave.
Obst is well within his rights to stay, but if he leaves for another club there will be no reason for us to pay him off

If Hull had to pay Obst off they would do it now. What would Hull gain in waiting to pay him off? Are they complete idiots??
Obviously it will be cheaper for hull if Obst finds a new club, he would already be gone and we would have our signing we are waiting for otherwise

Macrae has, said been discussed with him due to dropping down the pecking order.

As for posts above, lets just say he earns 60k at Hull and has been offered 40k elsewere. Obviously he would want the 20k or so making up, hence a payoff

Yes, Mcrae has said that him and Obst have had conversations whereby if he wants to look for another club he is free to do so.,

I've never read it so just wondered. Hull will have to pay something to Obst imo.

According to some on here, by waiting to pay him off, Hull can stop themselves getting a reputation for mistreating players, which would supposedly have the knock-on effect of damaging our prospects of making good signings in the future. I don't buy it myself though.
Your second paragraph makes no sense at all, if you'd read my post properly you'd realise that I was responding to people saying that if Obst goes elsewhere we wouldn't have to pay him [uanything[/u, I didn't mention anything about 'cheaper'.
The bottom line is that whether we are trying to force him out the door or not, we need rid of Obst for the cap space far more than he needs to leave. As Hutchie points out, if he does find another club then the very least he'd want would be for us to make up the difference in wages, but, if he can live with the possibility of ending up sitting the season out, he's got us over a barrel for far more than that.
Good work on trying to create an argument that never existed though
