Quote: Bal "Comparing Pipe and Glass against the Boars Nest is a little daft. Ive eaten at P&G and it was very good - although in my experience the service was better in BN, but the point is you can buy two courses for less than 20 quid in BN, you struggle tp find a starter less than 15 in PG on the lunch time menu.
Also, I think by some of the comments on here that I may have just had a one off good experience but while Standee says its good by Hull standards, I have eaten all over the country and I think its one of the best pre 20 quid meal I have had in a resturant.'"
Standee can be a patronizing bore at times, although at other times I agree with him 100%.
The Boars Nest [iwas[/i excellent, and was listed in the national Good Food Guide [inot[/i the HDM one as Standee suggests. It was pricey at first and the food was quality. Unfortunately, it was rarely full, probably because of the reasons cited by the owners for the move. They felt the need to bring prices more in line with the rest of Prinny Ave and the quality dropped. Simple as that.
There are several nice restaurants still in Hull, notably Cook's Endeavour owned and cheffed by by the bloke who previously had Venn, which was, of course, Michelin starred like the Pipe and Glass
. As Standee distances himself from evreything Hull, including, it now seems, the rugby, he wouldn't know that, though.
