| Quote PAUL M="PAUL M"This is correct so provided we can agree terms with Moa he can stay and so can Obst.
The thing for me is if Horne gets injured then Nicklas should be the back up or Turner. If Seymour gets injured then Ellis should be the back up. Houghton and Heremaia is enough cover at hooker with Newton as an additional back up.
I just don't see the need for Obst, waste of money and he will want first team rugby at his age.'"
That is absolutely spot on IMO
If we lose Obst then we still have plenty of options for 6 & 7. We could do with another forward, Scruton perhaps.
Here's a question for you though... What happened to Lawrence Pearce?

| depending on cap space then id be happy for obst to stay and give us some real depth and competition for places in the halves and hooker but we do need at leaste 1 forward most probable 2 so if we aint got the space then obst may have to go.

| Quote Jake the Peg="Jake the Peg"I think we need to see how it all pans out. It may be that players we expect to stay will move one but at this stage it looks like we'll have too much salary cap tied up in halfs and hookers and probably have too many players sat twiddling their thumbs in the stands each week. There'd be plenty of takers if we agreed to release obst but I don't think that's the plan'"
Well we need a forward or two so keeping Obst and offering Long a pay as you play deal seems like madness, we would have four SH's.
Unless Horne is not staying and Seymour is gonna play 6? I doubt that though.
As for fullback, Whiting can cover that position if Wade gets injured.

Pearce has been getting some good reviews in the U20's.

We don't need Long or Obst IMO. Nicklas has missed most of 2011 so next season it will like getting a new player - and the kid needs game time! Our backup players i.e. Ellis and Nicklas need more than 3 or 4 games a season to develop. Losing Obst and Long could make way for a decent forward

Obst is under contract, he isn't going to just walk away, and who is going to want him that will pay more than we do?
I'd rather not renew Horne's contract and keep Obst.

Horne is a far better 6 than Obst, it's not even close.

You would rather keep an ageing Obst who's best position is hooker, where we now have Heremaia and Houghton, rather than Horne, who has had a pretty decent season given the changes we have had in the halves, is 4 years younger and is capable of filling in at full back effectively??
