Surely this must have included passholders? 2000 people looked about right to me...

Well noone took note of my pass and i was speaking to a group that came in through the side gates. There would have been no way to accurately count passholders so I would assume that to get such a precise number they wouldn't count!!

Yer fair enough.... Regardless of the actual figure, was good to see a good number make it.

I'll bet the parking was chaos.

was a really good night out and ionians is perfectly suited to a night like this with lots of room to set other stuff up like the kicking comp and of course the pie queue! games were enjoyable and what you are going to see is sides adopting special plays to make the most of the space - short kick offs and chips over the defence as well as use of the powerplay which is a great concept. even though its not really first teamers involved i can see it really catching on as tonights attendance shows - it certainly had a bit of the cricket t20 atmosphere about it. the other thing its going to do is make the younger players a lot more well known and give them a lot of experience of bigger crowds and match days.
was a good sprinkling of first teamers mingling with the crowd - yeamo, moa, omeley, ticks, phelps to name just a few. other notable 'celebs' were motu tony, john kear who got a really good reception and tommy lee

Thought it was a 9s tournament?

there's 4 rounds of round robin group games then the top teams from each group go on to a finals day - similar to the cricket t20

Not forgetting Michael Dobson, Blake Green, Craig Hall and James Elston!!

Cars also filled the side pitch aswell.

Crooks wont be far off getting a few games with first team next year, if Yeaman and Gleeson get injuries I would be tempted to give Ben a game.

I would send him out to a NL club next year for a few games.
