Not a world beating performance by any stretch of the imagination but there was a lot more good points in the game than bad points.
We still look dodgy when a team ships the ball wide and Wigan could well have scored a few more if it had not been for some inspired defence by certain individuals at the most opportune time. The kicking was poor for the majority of the game but we did manage a few decent ones.
Wigan were definitely under strength yesterday and we SHOULD have beaten them, but confidence is a big factor in sport as well and our confidence is probably pretty low. However a performance like that can sometimes do wonders for a team and give them that self belief they may be lacking.
I also think that the crowd got behind the team a hell of a lot more than normal and that will have also given the players a boost.
Yes we should have won it in the end, but IF!!! the team can build on that performance and improve on it then we may finally see some light at the end of what seems to be a long and very dark tunnel.'"
Always seems to be our right hand side too!!!
I thought the atmosphere, was fantastic, with everyone shouting and singing all through the game, and that certainly helped the players, because they seemed to thrive off it.For his 1st game, with no pre-season,i thought Phelps, had a super game, nothing startling, but looked solid, and seemed to enjoy encouraging his team-mates.Obst and Horne looked like they are starting to gel quite well together(though i still expect Long to walk straight back in to the team, right or wrong!!).Overall,i enjoyed the game, and was gutted when tickle missed the penalty,as a draw, would have been well deserved.I just hope we can put in a similar performance against wakey on friday.
