He certainly doesn't warrant the position he's in, but I still don't see why that you make you think unkindly of him. He took a job, he's trying his best to do that job, but he's not up to the required standard. The fact that he hasn't been removed from that position is not his fault. I think it's a lot to expect a person to give up a job just because they're struggling when they have a mortgage to pay and a family to feed.
If you were promoted beyond your capabilities could you be 100% sure that you would:
a) realise you were out of your depth, and,
b) give up the job knowing you faced an uncertain future without it?
