Why? The quicker Hull fans forget about this ridiculous idea and obsession with bringing in a stop gap halfback and then signing a world class or one of the very best halfbacks in the NRL a year later the better, it wont happen, we have said the same every year since 2003 and Stacey Jones. I know thats maybe not what your getting at but I have seen it a few times on this board, The NRLs best 7s as a rule stay there because they can still command the wages, until they are past there past there best at least, the closest thing to a top class aussie halfback coming over in his prime in recent years is Monaghan, who is on a ridiculous contract and he couldnt get a game at 7 at Manly anyways. Even in the unlikely event that Thurston or Cronk etc headed to SL what would stop Warrington outbidding us.
For me the sensible approach would be to go for a quality mid to long term halfback, if not quite world class, the likes of Rovers signing Dobson, Crusaders signing Samutt and Quins signing Leuluai originally shows that these players are around on the fringes of the NRL if you look hard enough, I also remember Peter Sharp trying to sign Jamie Soward when he couldnt get a game at the Roosters what a signing that would have been. The other option would be players playing at SL level for smaller clubs, Hudds made a shrewd move buying Brough as did Wigan signing Leuluai. I know we have other weak areas for 2011 like in the centres, but Berrigans wages could easily be spent on a good halfback option, and if one became available we would be stupid to turn down the opportunity to sort this position were we have struggled for years.
