| Quote flezmundo="flezmundo"Exactly! Longy is a superleague legend! Rather him then most!'"
Yes well Longy was at the forefront of a far superior team and had a great understanding with Leon Pryce and Cunningham, plus they had the quality on the fringes with Gardener, Gidley, Meli etc. Basically he had internationals all round him.This was also when Sean Long was younger and fitter. Although when fit he always tries his best and would die on the pitch but he's missed too many games for a player who has such a big role in the team. As for Rovers taking a gamble on Dobson it was never a gamble in the first place. Webbo was out for the season by the club's understanding and on the quota and when the calibre of player that is Dobson was available it was too good an oppurtunity to turn down but part of it was maybe trying to get one over on Hull on Hudgell's behalf and they probably gave him more money but all players have a price. I think you took a gamble on Sean Long and it arguably hasn't payed off due the injuries he has sustained whereas Dobson hasn't missed a game. I know at the time time Dobson was 3rd choice at Canberra but he had Todd Carney in front of him and some fella called Campese I think who were two highly rated and sought after players. Let's face it the NRL is a far superior competition and is full of talented half backs and being 3rd choice over there probably equates to being a pretty decent player in SL. What about the impact Dobson had with Wigan and in SL when he came over before as a teenager. I know Fielden had a big impact but Dobson must have played a huge part in keeping them up. If they hadn't had signed Finch they would probably have him back in an instant.

Eg ? No Dobson is not Longy and has all the potential to be better and has a lot of years left in him. He will definitely be back in the NRL sooner rather than later.

I can't think of any that are in better form at the minute and you have not given an example of some of the better scrum halfs in SL than Dobson.

Yeah - Danny Tickle does last minute drop goals. so what. Why dont people get a life Dobson is a Wovers player why mention him and not any other clubs player who score last minute.

As 6/7 are quite interchangable now (what exactly does distinguish them?) I'll just go for the thing that I feels distinguishes a 7 and that's being the 'chief organiser and general playmaker'. I think;
Long
Eastmond
Tomkins
Sinfield
Chase
Briers
Orford
Are all better organisers than him.

Long has got the medals from his career at Saints , but the remit is for him is to take Hull to finals. That's how his career at the KC will be judged.
If he passes on some of his knowledge to the up and coming young half backs then he may leave some kind of legacy there.
Saints may have looked at it that , it was better for him to leave them a year too early rather than a year too late , but he was the kind of player which was desperatley needed at the KC to organise the team after the poor half back recruitment over the last few years.

Exactly, Eastmond is clearly ready to make the step up and Longy seemed to have done everything there was to do at St Helens. The move was in the best interests of all 3 parties.
