I hope she is not too shaken..lesson there for us all
My 18 year old daughter was a victim of an attempted mugging last night just off Saltshouse Road, 3 younger teenie lads had a pop for her ipod...now she aint no-ones patsy...2 ran off as the one who grabbed her went head first into the tarmac with her on top of him..apparently he squealed like a tit saying she had cut his head on the path!..... but seriously it could have gone the other way
I seriously hope this doesn't effect the girls in the future. It will take a while before they ever feel comfortable on the streets again if they ever do. They may feel ok now but the fear will be deep set.
I was mugged twice (unlucky I know but it two different places, London and Manchester) however after the initial shock of been mugged (and the second one was serious as there was about 6 of them, they had broken my nose, chipped my hip bone and kicked the living daylights out of me all for £5!) I decided I would not stop walking the streets because this means scum like this had won our streets over. I deliberately walked passed where I was mugged on many occations to take back that space from the muggers (my blood was visible for a while after the event) but I for one am not going to let this type of scum win. The more of us that stays off the streets the more dangerous they will become so I would like to see more people get out of thier cars and walking the streets. The more people around the less likely the scum get the chance to mug someone.
Saying that even as a 40 yrs old bloke I still get edgy no matter what time of day or night it is when I see two or more walking near to me (last night walking alone down Sutton Road two youngish kids crossed to my side so I crossed to the other) and all because of scum who attacked me some 5 years ago, thats how deep the fear goes.
Good luck to your girl. Hope she doesnt loose confidence in herself, and please remind her, scum like this are the exception not the norm even in the so called 'rough' areas.

The thing with these lowlifes is they are not so tough when they are on their own.
It makes me feel sick that these rats think they are hard when its three on to one.

It's a sad reflection on society of today when you cannot even walk down streets on your own without fear of someone jumping you. It's compounded by the fact the police are too busy targetting crimes such as speeding, cycling on pavements/without lights and the like. Whilst still anti social they are nothing compared to the enduring fear of an assault/mugging etc.
And even if there are witnesses rarely do people want to get involved never mind help out at the time of the attack because they know that they themselves would be targetted for some of the same.
I've lived down South for 20 years now(half my life) and in London where I worked it can be the most awful place to be. I used to do informal classes at work for the ladies just so they had a bit more of an awareness as to what to do or what to look out for IF they had to be out on their own. The mere fact that you try to persuade them not to go out late on their own is a reality we all need to think about. Even then there is just occasions you cannot do anything except give them your purse/wallet/phone and be thankful you weren't stabbed or beaten to within an inch of your life.
