Sad news. He was a top guy. Brian used to coach the student rugby league team at Humberside University when I played for them many years ago. I saw Brian a few weeks ago at Wembley and had a chat with him. He still remembered me after all these years. He always had time for everyone.

R.I.P Brian. A fantastic man who I got to know and respect well , when I played for Stelrad. One of the true gentlemen of Rugby League and a great stalwart of the amateur scene in Hull.
Yet another great enters the big Rugby league family in the sky.

There are not enough superlatives to describe Brian Holwell. He had a pure passion for Rugby League and the people that knew him will never forget him.
I have known Brian for near on 30 years from playing for Newland through to Stelrad and also watching Hull Fc.
He always had time to talk to you, a fantastic character and as previously said, a [ireal[/i gentleman. Deepest sympathy to Maureen, Kevin and the rest of the family.

I'll always remember Brian as being one of the few coaches who had an appreciation of the Laws of the Game and the pressures of being an official. If he had criticism, it was a foolish bloke who ignored it.

First met Brian at Newland some 30 years ago, he seemed to have a natural ability to get the best out of somebody.Then had the pleasure of meeting up with him again at Stelrad and he had not changed. One of the few people who put so much into peoples lives, only spoke to him 6 months back a true gent. God bless you.
